Tender water level taps Empty Tender water level taps

Post  IanL Thu 20 Dec 2012, 7:38 pm

I have been trying to fit my water level taps but the POR15 has done an excellent job of blocking the threads in the side of the tender. Does anyone know what thread it is that I need to use to clean out the sealant. I have looked at the structure sheet but the thread is not stated.

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Ian

I would hold off with them for the moment. Steve has promised new ones as the current supplied ones are basically naff and don't hold the side up very well.

The thread will be the same though and its an ME one, if I remember correctly its 5/16 x 32. The coleman lent me one, he might be able to remember to confirm if I am right.

Have been there as well, but are easily cleaned out with a tap.

Many thanks for the information I will have to get myself a suitable tap.

The water level taps that I have been supplied STW are functioning, unlike the ones mentioned here in early posts. However, the bore is so small I doubt that water will flow through them as water surface tension will probably stop it without a bit more pressure than the height of the tender tank will produce. I will try to post some picture of them later today as I have the day off and have had a text saying I will be receiving a delivery today from STW towers, Santa is coming early Very Happy bounce

Merry Christmas

Ian

I've changed mine for slightly larger ones. However as Lynn knows the handles aren't very good (functional but ugly) so ill be making new handles at some point which are more inkeeping with the period. I got them from Herritage Steam, but they were not the same as shown in the catalogue at the time as the supplier had gone bust. I've also moved mine to the otherside of the tender, no two of these engines are going to be the same when finished and all will look great.

Keep up the good work.

Rob

Are the ones you bought the same style/design as those from LSM that Nick (Sonic45) mentioned in a thread way back? I have also bought the LSM ones to fit to mine althoiugh I have not done it yet (also got the tap ready to clean the threads).
