Kit 17 Belly Tank
Hi All,
Just finished putting in the last of the riv bolts on my belly tank
Have to say what a great job STW made of this kit, I was a bit worried before I started about getting all those holes to line up
but it went together extremely well and was a pleasure to put together.
Instead of a sash cramp I pull it all into position with a small ratchet strap.
only sore point is my fingers but all in now and looking good so the pain was worth it.
Merry Christmas
Kev

Re: Kit 17 Belly Tank
Hi Kev
Do not lock the balance pipe elbow into the tank as you will need to remove it to allow the pipework to fit. Took me a good 45 mins to remove the nut as the isoflex had a very very good grip on it.

Ok Lynn,
I was thinking about not fitting it until later in case it needed to move, I definately will leave it off now.
Thanks
Kev

Re: Kit 17 Belly Tank
Hi All,
Is it not possible to pivot the belly tank whilst attaching the pipework? Seems a shame to break a perfectly good water tight seal.
I was going to nip to B&Q and buy a piece of 22mm pipe and cut to size (as I am about to attach the cladding and belly tank). Therefore, how long is the balance pipe from the tender to the belly tank.
All the best,
Brian

Hi Brian,
You do not need to remove the elbow to fit the balance pipe. If you look at my thread in the photo section I've tried to describe how I fitted it without removal. It's not difficult to do really.
cheers
Rick

Cheers Rick, I have read the thread and will emulate. By the way nice looking engine (particularly like the smoke)

Kev
Any pictures of your belly tank too? I am just about finished with mine, end panels will be on this weekend.
I build mine slightly different to the instructions and did some preparatory work that meant I did not need any type of clamps to pull it together. I will post an alternative thread about it for those builders behind us to look at. You can never have to many options!!

Re: Kit 17 Belly Tank
Interesting contraption, what was it before it was a painting stand? Something off an old drawing board maybe??

Re: Kit 17 Belly Tank
Its made of junk !
base is an old piece of school sports equipment
length of round steel
large lump of wood
some studding
tube is a chrome leg cut down
and some builders fixing strap
I used it to hold the tender when painting that too,I dont have room for an engine stand so had to come up with something else.
