I'll have to wait...
Well done Frostie!
My wheels are going to have to wait. I'm standing outside, in the rain, in front of a wood stove trying to get a signal!
You gotta love the Norfolk Broads in October

beavering away.......
Just thought I would sign up and make myself known, So, hello every one
I have steadily been building up my kit over the last couple of weeks. I have really enjoyed an easy and steady build (credit to every one at steam traction world!) I aways have a couple of projects on the go at once so it is nice to have something that just fits together
few pictures for you guys then:
Dry build of my first wheel:
Borrowed the oven when she wasn't looking.....
The rest on my time has been split with my restoration of my series II....
Thanks to every one at steam traction world, I'm looking forward to the rest of the build.
Regards
Ryan

Weston,
Just noticed that your picture shows that you have your front wheel hubs, have other people received the front wheel hubs with kit Number 1 ???
I didnt get any hubs with my first kit !! Hence my questions earlier about brass.steel hub caps ..

Re: First Kit !!!
Wow, Lots of response this morning.
To answers a few questions, yes that is a Markie crane engine, he lives in the kitchen and that is where I am currently building my first few kits, the landy has stolen most of my workshop space atm
As for my first kit, yes I did receive the hubs/hub caps, just how it came? although I was not sure if these caps where supposed to be brass or not??
As for my landy, she is an early series II 1959, not that original anymore tho, when I got her she was in a very sorry state so I've turned it into a v8 hybrid
Thanks for a warm welcome everyone

Tyres.....hmm, messy
Got round to putting the tyres on today, they didn't lie when they said it was a messy job. And oh and what lovely stuff isoflex is, wasn't too bad in the end. Only took around 10mins a tyre to fit once it was all "lubricated" up with the isoflex. Getting everything really clean and prepared was the longest part. I looked around on the forum for others that had already taken on this task in previous batch of the kits. a Big thank you to Julia who posted "dont give up on isoflex" worth a read if you haven't already.
On with the pics then....
A quick rub down by hand to remove any large rubber particles left over from using a large flap wheel. I then made sure that I cleaned and degreased the tyres and wheels well, my weapon of choice for this is Loctite 7061 super clean... and it does just that...
Now the hard bit, getting the tyre over that steel rim, I started at one end and then cable tied as I went, this seemed effective and kept the tyre in the correct place.
Finished tyres, all squared up and evenly on the rim. just 2 weeks of drying now......
Thanks all,
weston

Re: First Kit !!!
Good job done, its so much easier with two people. I got my tyres quite hot , they really were very flexible and quite easy to get on.
No matter how careful you are though its still bloody messy !!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you going for the vulcanised mains ??

Re: First Kit !!!
I can recommend using cable ties as well. Did the same on the bowser wheels and made it so much easier than I expected. Only word of caution....they need to be heavy duty type it they break and you end up in a right mess.
Re: First Kit !!!
@frostie... your hubcaps will be in your kit 2

Re: First Kit !!!
Very nice.
Take it your spraying? Are you using Craftmaster paints, if so how have you found them? I looking around for paint atm. I have a local paint supplier that I have used for several projects, but i'm just wondering if the extra money is worth being spent with craftmaster?
Cheers

Re: First Kit !!!
Yes all the primer, enamel, and thinners I have used has been supplied direct from Craftmaster.
Craftmaster paint is a bit dearer but in my opinion the finish warrants the extra few shillings spent
I am using a small spray gun on the large items and an airbrush for the tiny bits.
As always preparation preparation preparation, is the key to a decent finish.
I am looking forward to starting the lining when I get home, the paint will be well hard by then.

Re: First Kit !!!
Thats good to know, I have been looking around but I was thinking that craftmaster was the way to go. How to you find spraying with it, any odd behaviours? Have fun with the lining, think i'm going to have to get my paint ordered now
