Hello again - should I be using thread lock on the rivet bolts for the smokebox door ring ?  I can’t imagine I will need to remove it in the future , will I ?
Thanks very much.

mmmmm I'd like to take mine off to give it a decent clean and repaint but it "has" been loctited on and I think the end game will mean I'll have to snap them off and re-drill and thread them Rolling Eyes
So for me I'd only ever loctite something if its really mission critical if it comes undone.

Hi guys
Firstly things with loctite dont come out easily so careful consideration asto will I or wont I need to remove in the future is required.
I did a little research into loctite a few years ago and found that up to about 180 deg it gets stronger but after that its locking ability reduces rapidly.
The smoke box door could well exceed 180 when working your engine hard so like LS I would say dont bother with loctite just check often.
If you need to take a screw out that has had loctite on it then get it up to about 250 deg with a blow lamp it turns to chewing gum at that temp and gives in quite readily.

Thanks for the tip, cant wait to blow lamp my bolts now Cool

I've been wanting to stip down the whole front door for a while now but dreading having to do all the work on the snapped bolts as they just dont want to move and there appears to be some kind of gunge or loctite lurking thats gone like concrete.
