Hi Colin,
Thanks for the info
Can I ask where you got yours from please?
Would ordinary softwood be ok to use ,was thinking of painting it with something to help preserve it.
Thanks

Re: wooden boiler lagging
Hi Kev,
I had some problem tracking down tulipwood at a fair price.I mentioned it to a couple of guys at dorset and a friend of Tim Watson
picked some up for me and dropped it off at old warden for me.I believe it was offcuts from a stockist in Worthing,Tim may be able to help.
I was advised to use Tulipwood as other woods may give off a resin that will eat into the boiler. I don't know if there is any truth in that but was not going to take a chance.

Wood lagging
Tulip wood & Poplar are used for lagging, they are very dry (little resin) and offer slightly more resistance to burning than other woods. On full size engines they are usually spaced off the boiler with some sort of strips. This provides more insulation and stops the wood getting quite so hot. On a miniature this is tricky! also it would pay to keep the wood strips back say 1/2" from the smokebox which can get very hot & if it is going to burn it will burn from that end first.

Re: wooden boiler lagging
Thanks for the info Steve,
keeping it slightly of the boiler and back from the smokebox sounds a good idea.
