Spectacle plate
Please excuse the poor picture -has any one had problems with the front spectacle plate not lining up? It seems half a hole out. Obviously I can grind off the bottom but that seems drastic.
Look forward to hearing from you

Re: Spectacle plate
What appears to be stopping it lining up?

Re: Spectacle plate
Check back on the production thread I think there was a note about the plate being fouled by the boiler.

Re: Spectacle plate
Thanks for the replies, glad it is not just me! It is the boiler which it is fouling.
Will email Steve and let you know what he says.

Re: Spectacle plate
Mine was tight and I just attacked with a flap wheel till it fitted, wont be seen, and is totally covered in crud now anyway. It might be the cleading that causes the problem.
Re: Spectacle plate
Pinged an email to Steve and his response was as follows:-
Yes, just remove some from the underside of the spectacle plate. The nature of boiler construction does create a fair degree of variation. If I was to design a gap between the two then it could be too large for the ‘low’ boilers. It’s too late for you but I’ll add a note in the Kit 09 instructions explaining this and perhaps the need to take some metal off the spectacle plate.
Incidentally you will see that the rear spectacle plate has three holes in the bottom of it. On the full size engines these would have been actually bolted to the boiler. This is not practical or necessary for us, so just put in some dummy bolts.
Sorry that you’ll spoil your paintwork.
So out with the tools it is.
Thanks dor your help folks.
With best wishes
