what colour

Hello,
I have just paid my deposit for the 2" Burrell agricultural engine and am looking forward to commencing my build, please can anyone guide me on what colour schemes the original burrells would have left the factory and would they have been lined?
I look forward to any guidance

Hi, I'm a "newbie wannabe"

I had the pleasure of meeting the Steam Traction World Team (and the dog!) at their factory the other week.
I was given a factory tour and was most impressed by what I saw.

I'd love to get a 2" but feel that a 4" would be more satisfying and perceived value for money.
However the logistics of the larger engine would be a problem for me.
I'd have to build a shed and get a trailer etc.

I think I will leave the descision for a year and make sure I get round more shows and rallies next season.
Get some muck and oil under my skin !

It's inexpensive and might point you in the right direction.

Probably best if next year you find a Burrell agricultural engine at the rallies or on Steam Scenes that you like and copy the colour scheme from that engine. By doing that you wont go to far wrong & if anyone queries the colour you can refer them to the full size engine.

I agree with Steve when it comes to colour, look for an engine and base yours on that. I went for a RL called "Suzie" down here in Cornwall as I had access to her at the time.
On a personal level, I would avoid Crimson Lake as there seems to be a lot of engines that colour. Sorry to all owners who have chosen that colour, but there are plenty of other colours. Hugh B has done his engine in blue which looks nice, and Chloe, my engine is a green'un with brown wheels. But then you could be brave, and go for Yellow like the engine "Wait and See". Now that would be different!!!

Anyhow, welcome aboard and please don't feel shy to ask a question, I'm sure someone will have an answer. And also hope you have nimble fingers, you'll need them for the tender build!!! Thats why my next build is going to be a 4".

I found it very easy to choose a colour, Green was a no no coz Mrs LilyJack said no bloody way so Burgundy/red it was. As for the correct Burrell Burgundy, I ended up in an autoshop just down the road from me and checked out the colour ranges they had on the shelf, ended up with colours of the Ford range. Turned out okay for me but obviously its up to the individual..

Either way, Happy painting, and remember.....preperation preperation preperation and most definately preperation before you even think of sticking on that first coat, even if its only the primer. The more time ya take, the better finish you'll get. Everyone else on here will agree..
