Fire Hole Size?
Can anyone tell me the size of the fire hole opening in the backhead? It is to help me identify the correct shovel size. A little premature I know but someone is trying to get properminiature shovels made with wood shafts to mimic the full size ones.
I think it looks nicer than one with a bit of steel bar for a handle - no disrespect intended to those who already use such a shovel!!

shovels
A wood handled shovel is ok to look pretty but in miniature scale an all steel one is practical as well as better if one is to cook bacon & eggs 'on the shovel'. A wood handle would soon burn!

Beg to differ Steve.
As you well know, my wood handled shovel does a mean bacon roll! I have cooked quail eggs on it but that was a waste of time.

Hi.
Have to agree with Tim the wooden handled shovel he has not only looks the part, but is used to cook Breakfast(or in Tim's case brunch) at most of the rallies he attends and does not seem to have suffered any scorching on the handle.

Wood or metal handles?
Theoretically a metal handle will outlast a wood one as at some point the metal will scorch the timber which will then work loose however I accept that Tim is the 'Grand Master' of 'on the shovel' cooking and having tasted much of his cooking will say no more!
PS Hi Tim, looking forward to some more brunches this year!!

New Brass/wood handled shovel
I got a gift yesterday which was nice.
It's a Solid Brass shovel (nice and heavy) with a wooden handle.
90mm wide which should fit through the 99mm hole nicely.
Just need to finish the engine now...

It's a coal shovel yes. sold separately. believed to go with a coal scuttle. (Or a bunker).
it's to small to go with a fire/stove set. would look odd.

It will look better once the shiny surface and tarnished and i wont be cooking on it. I'll get a long handled steal on for that.
It will look nice when the engine is out on static display but when your working not sure it will be the most practical.
