Smokebox Center Name Ring

Hi People,

I've painted the large brass name ring on the smokebox door red and picked out the brass letters as is common. What about the small brass name ring in the center, I've done a bit of surfing and the most popular seems to be red with picked out letters again or all black the same as the smokebox. Which is correct/original?

On Crystal I did Red background and polished brass. But after a big hill climb at Mellor Brook both reds turned to a odd black.

for Pied Piper I also went the same way as Lynn, red with polished brass lettering. But I put some isolation between the door and baffle plate. After discussing with our chimney sweeper i opted for a „rope“like seal usually used to seal oven doors. So far no discoloring
