It went quite well for its first steaming. Gauge glass cock was leaking - that is the hissing sound on the video. I had various other small leaks here and there. The clack valves for the water pump and injector started blowing back but then they seemed to seal again so I'm going to leave them and try and steam again and see what happens. If they blow back again I will have to lap them in. Also when I tried the safety valve on compressed air it leaked like a sieve so I dismantled it and lapped it in. By doing that I didn't know what pressure it would lift at. It got up to 180lbs in steam and they didn't lift so I've taken them off when cold and tightened the nut a quarter of a turn. When I steam it next I will see if that is right. The blow down valve leaked. I took the valve chest cover off to set the valves when hot. Also I marked the positions of the reverser slots.

very nice but don't worry about leaks to much you will get them fixed
steam engines are like plumbers you get free leaks with every one
how slow can you get it to turn over that's the real test

I always find watching the engine turn over to be quite hypnotic. Stunning and you should be really proud of your achievement. If looks fantastic and sure to turn heads when out and about.

Wonderful job. One to be most definitely proud of Tim.
I think I quite like the look without the motion guards.
Like to see all the mechanical bits and bobs.

Thanks Jim, the motion covers are in the last kit, I will fit them but will also make them easy to remove for maintenance and cleaning duties !!
Shouldn't be long before yours is running on air ?

Cheers Tim

Don't know about that Tim. I'm so far behind.
Was looking at my bible earlier and there's only six kits to go.
That's one reason I haven't posted many pictures. There's not much that is finished.
I'm going to have sit down and write a list and tick them off.
Good game innit.
