I've received and built the wheels front and rear for my engine but I have steel caps! Has anyone ever sprayed these or know if brass caps are available? Would rather have brass as it looks better any help would be appreciated many thanks tom

Hub caps! Empty burrell kits

Hi Tom,
I received steel caps on mine. I queried it with Steve at STW told me that since sending brass, experts said that Brass should only be fitted on showmans, with steel on agriculteral engines, to preserve authenticty.
He said that brass can be supplied at extra cost.
I am at that stage on my 2" i have hand painted with craftmaster with no issues. I guess as they are steel you would treat them
the same as the wheels.

Hi mike
Thanks for your reply I shall just paint the hub caps gold or another colour I'm basing the paint scheme of my engine on "the president" what has the brass caps but if it's going to be silly extra cost for brass I would rather paint I'm having my wheels vulcanised anyway so maybe nearer the end of my build I may buy a set of brass god knows...

Hi again Tom,
I'm no expert on this, theres massive amounts of expertise on this forum. In my view, if you are
going to the expense of vulcanising, for the extra cost, it may pay to see if they can supply the brass caps.
I have opted for Burrell Plum wheels and Body. The caps will be in Plum, wiyh a gold line on rim that fits onto the hub.

You could try Nickel plating, thats what I intend to do as an alternative, hopefully this will keep it more authentic in my opinion.

I think that would wear better than brass.

Morning everyone,

All the traction engines apart from the Showman's are supplied with steel hubcaps. I have no problem setting a machine up to machine some brass one's as an optional extra if people want them. The fronts would be priced at £12 each and the rears at £24 each plus VAT. To save you all a delivery cost we would put them in one of your next kits. This would total £86.40 per set. If you also returned your steel hubcaps we would then credit you £36 off that price meaning the cost would actually be £50.40 per set.

If you want them then either let me know by email, dean@steamtractionworld.co.uk or just return your steel hub caps with a note letting me know who you are and asking for the brass equivalent.

All the best

Dean.
