Rear Axle fitting Empty Rear Axle fitting

Post  Kevster Sat 03 Dec 2011, 4:48 pm

Just spent the afternoon wrestling with my rear axle.

A tight fit is not the word, I didnt think it would be going in at first but after lots of twisting and turning it went in.

I rubbed the axle with wet and dry, turned up a cast iron "piston" the size of the axle.

used that as a lapping tool in a pistol drill with some fine valve grinding paste to open out the bearings a bit ,cleaned all that off, switched to time saver compound.

All the time testing the axle, done one side then the other then used the axle with the timesaver lapping compound to finish the job off.

Reading some off the post on fitting axles some seem to go in with just a tickle, mine definately needed a lot more than tickling.

Thats a fair lump off metal to swing about so im having a rest for a bit now Smile
