Kit 13 Reulator gland
Hi STW
Looking at the parts list for kit 13. The gland packing threads are M5 but there is no M5 on the packing list or contents. Slight Ops? or to come?
Also are we expected to cut the studs for the Valvue covers and piston covers? As the ss domed nuts do not go all the way down.
Finally
I have a bag of M8 nuts and washers but I am streached to find where they should be going. Help!

BTW
Laptops are great. I am actually in the garage fettling the piston rings as they need a slight file to allow to fit in the cylinders. All looking good. Pics later.
May actually set up a web cam. How sad would that be!

Re: Kit 13 Reulator gland
Hi,
Yes the kits went out on Thursday of last week. As far as I'm aware you should have had one Rick.
Lynn, u will need to cut the threads down if the dome nuts dont go all the way on.

Re: Kit 13 Reulator gland
Yes, thanks guys - it turned up late on Friday so I had en excursion into work to collect it yesterday. Got the pistons in - all good.
I haven't put any pictures up for a while so I'll have a go at later when I've got the valve gear in place.
Tony - how to you manage to keep your engine so clean and free from dust - mine's filthy - considering give it a good wash, but I will need a hand to push it back into the garage as it's too heavy to push on my own now.
They do look the business though - a fantastic engine.
cheers

Re: Kit 13 Reulator gland
Hi Lynn,
In answer to some of your questions -
1. The bag of M8 nuts and Washers are for the cylinder block - I think they are stainless but I could be wrong ?? to replace the existing mild steel ones?
2. I too don't have the M5 studs for the regulator glands.
3. I have 4 M6 x 30 left over - it says there should be 12 for the glands - I've used two each for the Piston and valve rod glands - are there two for the blast pipe or do these come later, but this still leaves two spare ??
No camera to take any pics today, but it all went together perfectly.

Re: Kit 13 Reulator gland
Hi Steve/Craig,
Any news on the M5 studs and nuts for the regulator glands ?
Also still outstanding are the two fasteners for the boiler bands that attach to the cylinder block for the road loco version - none in the kit and the "R" clips for the ashpan ?
A question on the gland packing - on the cylinder packing, when cut to achieve a but joint, the packing then springs apart when I try to fit them into the stuffing boxes and not wrapping tightly around the piston rod - will they automatically pull together when the nuts are tightened. I ask this as when I nipped them up and took the flange off to check, it still didn't look as though the gland packing was pulling in tight.
There is a big gap around the stuffing boxes on the cylinders but a nice snug fit around the valves and regulator glands when the packing is fitted. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong ?
cheers

Re: Kit 13 Reulator gland
M5 studs and suitable R-clips are on order (the ones we bought in are far too big)
mike says he will sort you out some fasteners for the bands, although he swears they were in the kit ?? anyone else missing them ???
steve will have to answer the packing question
