Spot the idiot!

After reading all the advice on Health and Safety, I still managed to get a slither of metal in my eye (after my four year old son wanted to wear my safety glasses, whilst I rectified a tiny imperfection in the beading on my tender ) at the weekend. This has resulted in:

• three hours in A&E

• one x-ray

• two (painful) dyes applied to the eye

• two different antibiotics

• five cornea scraps (with razor blades)

• two separate appointments at the eye hospital.

This got me thinking, how many other people have been injured so far, building these magnificent things of beauty?
(and my wife was so please when I sold my sports bike (which I was never injured on, not even a scratch) to buy the engine .)

Hi Brian,

Well no injuries so far except I sold my Fireblade so that counts as a sort of injury and have still to sell the RSV-r. I too had no injuries but fell off countless times - Nurburgring, Spa, Brands to name a few.

I'm sure there will be some form of injury to come.....................probably trying to lift the cylinder block onto the boiler!

I can sympathise, I once shot a bit of metal in my eye from a grinder. It took 4 days to show after it had started to rust!! I can still remember them coming at me with the end of a hypodermic to get it out. Not the nicest af things at all!!!!

Sadly at the time I worked for a hearing protection company that had an optical division specialising in safety glasses

This is why I wear safety specs whilst driving the engine because metal can be removed but hot ash will burn into the cornea immeadiatly and leave a scar forever. Also it breaks up when trying to be removed from said eye

Havent hurt myself so far with the build though, but did manage to put my left ring finger into the slide bar of the first engine with it running...... crushed and broke the tip and removed the nail in an instant.

In my trade, protective eyewear is essential because of flying contaminated debris. We use Smith & Wesson (yes the people who make guns) glasses. These are brilliant as they wrap around the face, are very light and you forget that they're on. Particularly effective for road runs.

Not so useful when you already have glazing perched upon your nose.

I once got super glue in my eye when I was making Model aircraft back in my teens.. was not nice at all! and the fact that it went up my nose and in my hair too... (dont ever try and unblock the nozzle of a super glue bottle by squeezing the bottle and having your head over it.. = lots of stuck together parts of the face and crusty hair!

Brian M is at it again, he came around yesterday to help put kit2 together after the paint was dry as I was having trouble with the axial pin going in. He said 'give me a go' and the first stroke of the hammer, he missed the pin and smacked his finger. As he danced around the place holding his hand, I wiped the blood off the axial and then helped him out. Got to do things in the right order
