Re: Exactly the same as the STW RL?
This is the only other contractors type RL model
I know of.
I have a few photos of this engine given to me by the owner Clive. The engine was built over a 10year period and is based on the same type of engine as the stw RL.
The castings and plans used were not for a single
Drive engine so some considerable changes had to be made to make it all work with the larger rear wheels and gearing.
I will post the photos on here later to give you an idea of scale against other engines and a car!!

Re: Exactly the same as the STW RL?
I'm sure Clive Hearsay would not mind me sharing these with you as his engine is superb. As you you can see it's not a small 4" RL.
Ours will be a similar size.

Hi
Thanks for the pics and I do like the sound of the clip
It is nice to see the BIG and small at the same time.

Not the same as STW
Just to put the record straight
"Lady Louisa" in not the same as the STW engines, she has always been a double gear drive engine with crane engine type perch bracket and was built from Pete Fibley's Sceninc Engine drawings, works drawings and my own sketches taken from various full size engines. I chose the works number 3900 as this was never used by Burrell's and that number is now part of the chassis number when she was registerd for the road
The cylinder block is that for a Scenic Engine and not a true "Contractors" type as used on the STW engines, my high pressure cylinder is on the same centre line as the boiler barrell and was machined from a solid casting, the flywheel is only 16" dia (4 foot full size as per Clyde) the belly tanks are the correct pattern for a "Contractors" engine ie not as wide so as to allow for the bigger front wheels to turn.
The wheels where built from the works drawings drawing's for "Clyde" with modification to the final drive gears to enable me to get the rear wheels to fit.
She will cruise at a steady 7mph and will do in excess of 10mph on very good blacktop, weight is approx 850kg, not yet put her on the weigh bridge, she took 15 years to build on and off and was made using own patterns and fabricated parts, the crank being one of them with a couple of castings coming from LSM and David Evenson.
And yes I do mind if pictures and information are put into the public domain with out first getting the facts right.
The paint scheme is based on a local engine to me that being the ex-Bridsons Burrell which is now owned by the Liverpool Museum. I was lucky to have some colour pictures of her I took during the early eighties when she was still in original paint work.
