Burrell in the Netherlands

Last weekend I drove nearly 1100 miles to collect a Burrell and waterbowser at STW and brought it home to the Netherlands. After reading this forum for a long time it’s now time for me to start with a new engine. As for some reasons I want to drive it next springtime. I can’t wait for the DCC so for that reason and I collected all the kits in one go. Last day I spend in unpacking and controlling al the kits and I am very impressed with the amount and quality I found. Just got the boiler painted in heat resistant black today and start cleaning the first bits.
I like the to paint the engine in maroon with the bright red spokes and inside off the tender, and al the visible part between the horns. Do somebody nows what RAL number paint I have to ask for as there is a difference in the color maroon?
I’m also looking after the pinstriping as I would like to keep it simple, it’s a agriculture and not a showman. So how wide should the lining be?
For example I like the lining and the colours as used on “Madeline” , I saw this engine on the event in Dordtrecht earlier this Year.

If you want a RAL colour for maroon then I used RAL 3005 which is a very close match. I believe it is called wine red but as its a RAL colour matching it for touch ups is easy. I believe that Craftmaster also do a very good range of paints and colours that have been spoken about on here and sound very easy to use with good results. The lining for "Madeline" is very similar to mine. I used the "Finesse" range of linig tapes which make it a relatively easy job to get the colours on, I prefere this over a Beugler myself as its much easier to control. My lines are the very fine 1/64" 0.39mm ( F55) on the inside, about a 2-3mm red line and then about 6-8mm for the black. I also use the blue fine line 3m tape to edge or mask off various bits it can go round corners and gives a really clean edge. These guys may send to you http://www.pinstripinguk.com/tapes.htm

After 15 weeks I finished the build today with the first steam test. As I aspects there were some leaks and I have to do some fine tuning. The engine runs well and is quite powerful as I am used to my 2”roller. I could only do my own driveway, as the boiler inspector have to visit me before I am aloud to drive on public road. Rules are different here from U.K. Steve was very helpful to complete the paperwork as this is also a little different up here.

I should not try to link photo’s in the middle of the night, as for me it is easier to handle a steam engine then a computer. I’ll post some photos up here; there are hundred more on my own site.

Oh, I did also build the waterbowser at the same time.

Well, today I will do a second test and Friday the boiler-inspector from Lloyds Register will come for the final steam test. Will cost more than €270.- but by law up here I am obliged.
