Well 200degC for 60 mins should about do it.

Smokebox and chimney base satin black stove paint from B&Q.
Inside of smokebox done in Matt VHT black good to 500DegC should keep the rust beetle out.

Forgot to get a picture before it went dark. Will try and do better.

Hard baked! Empty Dog house

Ok Ok. need to remember to take pictures.

You know how it is. You get so focused on something and you just forget everything else.

The build as it stands.

Wheels now top coated, Boiler painted and baked, front axil, perch and pivot all undercoated ready for top coat, name plates painted waiting polishing, Chimney untouched.

I will need to skim one sintered bush as one wheel is very tight on the axil while the other is perfect free moving without play.

For interest I am using 2-pac Dupont paint. Gives a good thickness to the coat, very hard, scuff and chip resistant and spray to finish so no cutting the paint down. Had lots of practice as in 2003 I resprayed my Landrover Defender 90.

with the tight wheel, try it with the hub covers loose first. some times they can bind things up a bit.

Hard baked! Empty Hub

Post  lynnr Mon 30 Aug 2010, 10:48 am

Hi Craig.

It is the bush as without the end sleeve and pin the hub runs free and easy. As soon as I place the end sleeve and pin, which needs slight persuasion to get home, the wheel locks up.

So I need to fettle the end face of the bush just to give it a bit of space. Otherwise I must most emphatically state that the dimensional accuracy of the parts received so far is outstanding.

I will face the bearing in the lathe tonight.
