I have no idea what the pulling power is going to be with these engines.

Does anyone know what the maximum sensible load would be?

What would the full size do

Just remembering Dorset last year, or was it the year before, when one of the big Road Locos pulled a railway locomotive on a lowloader up the Watford gap & around the playpen. We were told the lorry & train weighed in at 130 tons all up & I think the weight of the Road Loco was about 20 tons. Scaling that down to 4" and the final estimated weight of the Road Loco being 3/4 ton I reckon that the same proportion would be 3/80ths of 130 tons which is nearly 5 tons (4.875 tons to be exact). Now that doesn't sound much as I remember the SC Burrell being able to pull 5 tons, but that was on a tarmac road and the ground at Dorset is spongy clay. So being able to pull 5 tons on soft ground is pretty good I'd say, of course the other factor is grip! or lack of it. Wet grass or green ice can be fun to get traction on especially with no tread, still you can push 3/4 of a ton & make a difference so that's all right then!

It just goes to show you how much power these things create.

I know it's a 6" and not a 4" but standing there watching it pull was brilliant.
It gave me the idea of when are RL's are finished we should try and get a handful together at a show and have a go at heavy haulage.
Would be a spectacle if nothing else.

Did anyone else go to Kemble this year.
superb show and the fly past of a Vulcan Bomber was a great surprise.

The road surface at Kemble will give maximum pulling capability: it's flat and very smooth. Would be a different story on a wet grass field! I drove Ian Barker's SRL(S) at the Boconnoc Rally and there will be no doubt that these will be powerful beasts, especially as they are two cylinder. Starting a heavy load with the single cylinder engines is much more of a challenge.

Should be a Burrell gathering at Stythians in Cornwall and I will also be at GDSF.

A nice bit of heavy haulage from the miniatures I may be wrong but I believe the DCC Burrell 4in is now owned and rallied in Ireland...
