A day in the clouds!!!!!
Hi there
In contrast to hughb spending time underground, I recently had the opportunity of having a trip to the top of one of the towers on the Forth Road Bridge. The top is 156 metres above sea level and the view was terrific. If Dean reads this he may have memories of driving his Lykamobile over it on the John o' Groats to Lands End trip.
All the best

Day in the Clouds.
Hi miller
There is a very narrow 3 person lift from the roadway to within 30 feet from the top and then it is vertical ladders, all inside the tower. The movement of the road could be felt at road level but at the top there was no sign of movement although the towers are designed to sway a couple of metres in strong winds. It is the 45th anniversary of the bridge opening and the Bridge Authority held an Open Week with guided tours and displays. There were only 60 or so people actually allowed up the towers throughout the week and the tickets were auctioned off. Well worth it. I am now hoping to get a trip to the top of the Forth Rail Bridge. That is over 110 years old and still going strong.
Best regards
Tom A

As an ex-miner myself,I can relate to Hugh and the underground buzz ( with the added bonus of blowing rock up!!! ),but also having a ticket for cherry pickers up to 120 ft,I can also get the height buzz that you got for being up there.
