Kit 2 arrived today and i have started to clean up the castings.

How clean do they need to be to be authentic? Do they need cleaning back to smooth bright metal or do they need to just have the rough edges knocked off them?

I'm inclined to take them back to a smooth surface but only if it is the right thing to do.

Hi Jelk
"How clean do they need to be to be authentic? Do they need cleaning back to smooth bright metal or do they need to just have the rough edges knocked off them?"

The perch on the full size would have been a sand casting with all the texture that gives you.
I seem to remember words in one of the sheets of instructions that said if the original engine had a casting then your miniature will have one.
That said it is personal choice as to the finish you give to "your" engine.
My choice was leave it with the sand cast look and once painted it does look good, but I am biased.

Hi

Again if it is cast it should look like cast. Knock off the edges and remove any nodules or obvious sanding defects. Clean down any visible parting line.
These are things that would have been done on the 1:1 castings.

In my eye a over cleaned casting just looks wrong. Unless it is bright bronze.
