I am in the closing stages of completing my engine and am seeking your advise please on the following points!

Where is the best place to connect up the air supply to run it on air.?

What preparations do I need to make prior to running it?

Hi there,
When I ran mine on air I made an adaptor that fitted in one of the washout plug holes.

I just put a hose on the blowdown

Put a adapter to the washout pug in the smokebox to connect air line to it.
Made sure that there was enough oil in cylinder and lubricator was in working condition. Oil in oilers and extra oil on moving parts, just to be sure.

I made a plate to cap off the safety valves with a 1/4bsp thread so i can plump a airline in and also hydro the boiler at the same time

It will almost certainly leak air like a sieve, but dont worry too much about the leaks as it will react completely differently once hot and with steam.
