Need advice for equipping workshop
Hi all, as some of you will know, Im about to build a 2" Burrell. At present, my workshop contains boxes to tools and rubbish that I need to get sorted. We moved here in August last year. Im hoping someone out there can help me with buying the basics for workshop, such as workbenches, shelving etc.
Ive been looking in various places online, to be honest, its a bit of a minefield! So much to chose from, different companies and models.
Can anyone give me some idea of what to buy?
Charlie

Re: Need advice for equipping workshop
In addition to the normal vice, good set of BA spanners, fine files etc get a set of metal forceps that the hospital use to put stitches in and some tweezers. some of the parts are very small and require to be fitted in small spaces, so the forceps are useful to hold nuts etc. Unless of course you have a small child under the age of one, with tiny hands, who understands the intricacies of engineering and a full vocabulary!
Also a large plastic tray, like you can get from a garden centre, lined with a cloth. Then if you build the kit in the tray and drop a nut or small piece, it doesn't bounce and fall on the floor dissappearing amongst all the other crap on the floor.
Oh and I forgot, a large box of plasters.
Good luck! it's worth it

Thanks Big Al, thats some useful ideas there. I've been reading about the plasters!!! That a good idea about the tray, would never of given a thought till I'd dropped and lost a part. I have big chunky fingers so forceps and tweezers will be must buy. I've placed my order this morning, so in a few month, when I've got things sorted, I'll be starting my build, and become a full member of this 2" club.

Need advice for equipping workshop
Hi Steve, thanks for your reply. My list of things is growing each time I come on here!! I've been reading other posts, and writing things down that I need. I'm coming to the conclusion, that my workshop is going to cost just as much as the engine will!!! Having to start from scratch with workshop equipment, its going to be a a fun few years, but not so much fun for my wallet!!

Re: Need advice for equipping workshop
I built Crystal using a halfords tool case costing £90
A soft face hammer, extra set of imp and metric spammers £20
And a few other assorted tools about £150
Grinder £60
You don't need to go overboard.

Hi lynnr, I think Im just going to get the basic set of tools and get things as I need them.
Thanks for your reply and I think your right, no need to buy things I might not need.

Hi Will
Hope all goes well with your first year rallying. I'm hoping one day I'll be where you are now.
