2" Burrell "On The Belt?" Empty 2" Burrell "On The Belt?"

Post  made-in-england Thu 21 Aug 2014, 6:40 pm

As I come towards the end of my build, I am looking of different ways to display my engine when finished. Has anyone here run there 2" On the belt to say, a small sawbench? I saw a 2" Fowler A7 at the Basingstoke rally driving a small bench, and have also seen a 2" Burrell road loco on a 12V Genny..

Any thoughts?

There's no reason why not, obviously the governer won't work but other than that they are powerfull little engines & would easily work a scale appliance

Take it from me, the 2" Burrell is a powerful little engine. Ours will pull 2 wagons with me and the wife on board with ease. I have often thought about how I could put the engine to use on the rally field instead of just sitting there and ticking over. We have been offered the chance of looking at a 2" thrashing machine which we are planning to have a look at on our way back from Dorset this year and put the engine and machine together. I will let you know how we get on and how well the engine runs when working.

As promised, a report on how our 2" engine got on with the thrashing machine. The machine itself is a fully working miniature of a Ransomes thrashing machine which was built from an article in Model Engineering a few years ago. As for the running of the machine, the engine had no issues at all, in fact I had to hold the engine speed back to keep everything realistic. Anyway, a price was agreed and we should have a thrashing machine to play with next year.
