hi Simon I used a hacksaw make two cuts front and back of the tongue but about 1 mm narrower then the tongue , then use the hacksaw to cut out the middle ,three or four cuts as close together as you can get them . then you should be able to break of the small sections with a very small screwdriver now carefully file the slot until the tongue fits .it took me about 2 hours .

we tried to run the engine on air today and this is our first engine when we put air in the boiler most of it sounds like it coming up the chimney and nothing no the pressure gauge . checked the valve all working ok and tight against the cylinder, any ideas as to what the problem might be would be more then welcome . many thanks .

engine all finished and steam test passed we should be doing our first rally in a few weeks , we will post some rally photos with a bit of luck .

Was good to meet up and see your lovely engine shame about the priming but that will pass with time and more wash outs. Sunday could have been better weatherwise mind
