Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
Hi All,
I have today managed to get hold of the organisers at the Banbury (Bloxham) Rally. They seem very enthusiastic about the prospect of us having a gathering as part of their miniature section at this years rally.
For them to commit though they do need some ideas of the numbers that are likely to attend as they will need to ensure there is enough room for the engines and camping.
Please only use this post to confirm whether you are able to attend and if you are attending whether you would be looking to bring an engine. Also whether you would want to stay on site/camp?
I will also write to everyone, for the benefit of those who don't look at the forum and enclose a form to fill in but it would be good to start getting an idea of numbers on here.
Thanks
Dean

I'll be there, but also not camping and no engine this season. Only 80 miles up the road, planning to come up both days.
Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
Will be there with engine and organ and sleeping somewhere onsite, probably back of the van or trailer!!!!
Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
I would like to attend for the weekend but I don't think that I will be able to bring my traction engine with me. If possible I would like to be able to camp for the weekend in my motor home. It sounds like being a great weekend.

Count me in subject to the speed of your cylinder machining - I have kept that weekend free in my already full planner.
1 engine, 2 traction wagons, one living van and a water bowser if I can decide what to shift it all in. Oh and my caravan and awning too.

Dean,
I will be at Banbury with my roller, Unfortunately the Foden won't fit on the trailer so I can't bring it with me.

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
Hi All,
Today i have had final confirmation from the organisers at the Banbury rally regarding the STW get together.
We are pleased to confirm everything is going ahead however after a committee meeting last night they have unfortunately decided that any STW customer who is not bringing an engine will have to pay full gate price on arrival. Those customers taking a display (static or live) will be issued with a weekend pass, this will be sent direct by the organisers shortly.
STW have agreed to make a contribution towards coal costs plus pay the cost of having a trade a stand at the rally so both Steve and I are somewhat disappointed with this ruling as it was the Banbury organisers who initially approached us. We also hoped that what we were contributing (coal/stand/exhibits) more than covered any loss of revenue on their part.
Despite this set back we really hope everyone still supports the gathering and comes along regardless. On a positive note we are likely to have around 20 -25 of our engines at the event plus a beer and the BBQ will be free (well at least a hot dog anyway!!)
All the best
Hopefully see you all on 29th & 30th June.
Dean, Steve & Gang

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
It does seem that rallies are getting less frivoulous with there entry passes, we have had a couple of places that want to charge us fro more than one helper in the van. However that said if you are just a foot passenger and not bringing an exhibit I can see why they would say you should pay to get in, although with your contribution it seems a bit petty.
I am particularly disappointed with the continuing thread of letters in OG for the last three months bitching about rally contributions for transporting engine to shows and how they seem to be under the illusion that miniature owners get a handout!!!!! I for one have never been paid to attend any event and have never been offered, but I also have never asked, I don't know how many if any have ever had a contribution to attend with a miniature?? Some of mine have been several hundred miles round trip but its just about playing with the thing for me.
By the way REALLY looking forward to this one!!

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
So far the list is as follows:
7 x 4" Burrell Agricultural's
4 x 4" DCC Road Loco's
1 x 4" DCC Showman's
4 x 6" Foden's (statics and included our 2)
1 x 2" Burrell Agricultural
3 x 4.5" Foden C Types
1 x 4.5" Foden SWB Tractor
There's still time for a few more to come yet if they are quick.
Be great to get another 2" Burrell and another Showman's plus a Lykamobile as that's not represented yet.

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
Considering how many engines have been sold over the years thats not a very big list!! But then there is only a handful of regular contributors to the forum and lots of sleepers or people who dont even know about or use the forum etc. Still good to see that number of STW products, not quite millionaires row like Dorset but from small acorns etc.....
Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
I would have loved to come but due to health, distance and being on holiday with sister it is not possible.
I am very jealous of you lot down south. Lots more events to go to at closer distances. All my events this year but one are over 250 miles round trips.

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
For me it would be some 560 miles , and crossing the Canal with a trailer behind the car costs a small fortune. Apart from that I was booked in for a commercial event for 28 and 29 June long before STW announced this rally. As you know Fire Dragon is a real working engine, not only playing, but also towing loads of children (and their parents and grandparents) on many events.
If there is another STW rally next year I would love to come, but I need to know that around Christmas.

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
Well the weather was warm the welcome even warmer, Dean slaving over a hot BBQ and lots of people to talk too and engines to drole over.
Now what is the collective term for a group of Road Loco roofs
Then there was a visitor to the STW stand, it dwarfed Brian's 4" road loco.
I had a great time and have come away with several ideas a nd tips that will help with my build.
Many thanks to all
Ian
