I have found a website that will produce the old style number plates (license plates) eg- silver on black instead of the modern black on white/yellow. which never did look right on a veteran type steam car. They are stamped out on aluminium sheet.

I was under the impression that the law states that these "old" style number plates can only legally be fitted to vehicles manufactured before 1st January 1973, I feel sure that I have read somewhere recently of someone getting a roadside penalty notice.

When a policeman spoke to me whilst driving the Lika last summer, (parade in village fete), he was so fascinated by the car and how it worked, he wasn't interested in whether it had correct number plates or not. It appears the police have more to concern them these days than whether a car displays an approved plate or not, (as long as they can read it, the car is fully taxed, insured and roadworthy, and the driver sober).

But one day you will meet a policeman that will be interested and will just love to issue a fixed penalty notice, worse still with the proliferation of roadside CCTV you'll be lucky and get one by post!! Sad
