Hi All,
Weather here is "crap" again, so have spent the afternoon in the workshop doing some roof mods.

Spent ages filling & sanding the roof.... now like a babies bottom!! Perhaps not a good expression in this day & age Shocked

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 15 Te113

I've decided to add some wood work to the ends of the roof, finish it off so to speak, possibly write something on the front like "Mighty in strength & endurance" or some such "traditional" stuff like wot they used to do Very Happy :-

I shall fix the bits of woodwork to the roof, after I've got the calico material in place, which is a job I'm not looking forward to doing!!

Tony

Looking very nice Tony.

I have also spent a goodly part of today working on Crystal. Also been out fetching her rain coat. It's a bit too long so will need altered.

Rain coat is probably going to get a lot of use if the weather here is anything to go by Sad
Would like to see a picture !!
How are you getting on with Crystal, haven't seen much of her this week!!

Hi All,
Managed to do a little more to the roof, having sanded it smooth, I've "sealed" the wood with a coat of white Matt emulsion paint, in the hope that it'll make gluing the calico in place a little easier:-

Chimney extension now in place:-

& last, "yet another picture" of the of the whole engine Smile :-

Hi All,

I finally got round to covering the roof with the calico:-
Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 15 Te115

Then glued rain drips, chimney extension brackets & the "home made" roof ends into place:-

Now getting the undercoat paints on:-

The weather here has gone back to winter, snow showers all day & settling on the hill tops all round my place!!!
So, I think I'll start fitting some axles to Traction Wagon chassis & of course post pictures!!

Tony

Tony

That's fighting talk down here for us road loco owners who are actually out on the roads of Lancashire doing what they were designed for!!!!!!! Twisted Evil

Very impressive seeing the dynamo bits going together. What are the mods to the roof, all I can see is clamps holding strips of wood in place. Are they extra pieces just to protect the bulb terminals from straying fingers?

Weather forecast at least looks dry for the Banbury weekend, I am only able to go down in the morning due to a family party tonight so a 6am start!! Blackbeard has taken some effort to get clean again this week after the miles we did in the crappy weather from last Saturday (check out my post about it an the videos - you would probably have stayed indoors with your showman's engine. Wink

Look forward to seeing your engine finished, probably another award winner for you and STW.

Hello Brian,
Sorry about that, couldn't resist a pop at you guys out there all finished rolling around the country side on your road loco's, I just HAD to make the comment about how good the Showman's engines are going to look with this last kit in place Rolling Eyes ......... This is of course, credit to STW who have gone that extra mile with expensive tooling & a loads of time to get it perfect!! I'll put some more photos up later of the main dynamo, which is slowly taking shape on the (very cluttered) bench.
I'm unable to view your latest video, as my "broad band" connection is to slow at the moment & it won't load!! Pitty!! But loved your written account:D
Oh yes the wood strips are "my little extras", in an attempt to tidy things up a bit & add a personnel touch!!
Regards,
Tony

Tony

When do you expect to be in steam and getting some dirt on your engine then, summer has been and gone already, raining all day here in Lancashire (as usual).

Pity you cannot see the video, full regulator and full forward is used at one point with great sound effects. Not much ash in the smoke box last night either for 14 miles of running and a full bag of coal burnt, what was there was all good sized pieces rather than dust so the effect was to keep the tubes clean. Ashpan was pretty full though and we did rake it out during the day's running too. Also some fire bars have wasted a little on top too so there has been some serious heat generated with all the climbing.

I know one thing, even at 4" scale, lifting that main dynamo into place is only just possible without an engine hoist!!Shocked

Tony,

Absolutely stunning. It's a shame so much is covered up with the roof - it really does look quite amazing. I would find it difficult to want to light a fire in it - a thing of real beauty, as are all the others we see on the forum. First class job and very well done.

Hiya Lynn,
I see your doing very well with your generators & painting "that box". I on the other hand, haven't done much on the engine lately, as I'm taking advantage of this heat wave to actually get work done!! Having said that I'm trying to "modify" the exciter by making up a plate of "dummy coils" like the ones in the main dynamo. It's a bit tricky, as I don't want to interupt air flow to the generator windings!! Also I'm running out of usable paint, as most of what I have left has gone off in the tins, so I need to place an order with Craftmaster Paints.
I'll post more pics of progress when there's anything to show!!
Regards,
Tony
