Tony

That is a very neat job, simple and effective and I guess it is a lot quicker than completly doing it by hand.

I suggest that only thing to paint on your wheels now is the tyre pressures lol!

Hi All,
I know afew of you seem to have had "tollerence issues" with this kit. I have been fortunate, in that, it only took me a few hours to completly assemble & do the "Showman's polishing bit"!!

Here's afew pics:-

All assembled & smooth as you like:-

An example of "clean up & polish":-

The bits that stand out on a Showmans, I'm well pleased!!!! :-

Perfect alignment of "everything":-

Thanks STW for another very nice addition, I know what a pain this kit has been!! However, it's all really starting to look fabulous!!

Tony

Looking nice Tony.

Bingo You have the lucky kit!!! Not long before we get the replace spacers and can all be sorted. Gives the diff paint time to set.

Are you going to weld the rings shut on the drive pins. The polish them up again?

Hiya Lynn,
Nahh, I don't have welding equipment & it'd be dificult to weld in position without spoiling the finish on the pin "finial", which would then be difficult to repolish with the ring in place, so I'll just make do with a slight gap in the wire!! I think it looks OK!!
I'll not be painting diff untill we get the rest of the rear axle components............... Hopefully in the not too distant future!! (STW!!) Laughing

Tony

Hi All,
I'm "skyving" from what I should be doing, as I feel the need to bung up some more pictures of progress on the last kit!!

Having assembled everything & done a few of my own modifications on the winch drum, parts start getting the paint! All done with brushes!

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te139

I have changed STW method of fixing these bits, but have used the bits they supplied!?

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te239

Winch drum in primer:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te333

Then undercoat:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te429

Then top coat & start to reassemble:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te522

Against recommendation, I've decided to fit a tow rope, 50 metres 5mm stainless steel wire rope, suppied from just round the corner from Lynn!!

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te619

Winch drum in place, with rope now attached to drum, ready to be wound on, I laid the rope out all round the house & workshop & simply wound it in!!:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te715

There!! Steve was right, 50M........ perfect fit!!:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te814

Sorry, this pic is very dark, but shows the pin I fitted in the drum rim to retain the rope secuerly in place when not in use....... which will probably be "never"!!

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te913

View from rear:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te1013

With the wheel back on!:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te1014

Water lifter & pipe work, polished of course!:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te1210

And finally the exhaust "blast" pipe work::-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te1310

As usual, I'm delighted with the components supplied, they look fantastic assembled & in paint & in my opinion are the greatest advert STW could possibly want in their campain to attract more customers!!

Regards,
Tony

Hi Brian,
I'm hoping to get to Pickering, but, alas, not with the engine!!

Hi Lynn,
The rope came from Gaelforce Marine, Inverness. I phoned in my order last week, they made it up & it arrived in the post Saterday!!

Thank you both for kind comments!!

Tony

You know were to find me if you make it to Pickering, the oldest white knuckle ride on the showground - ask Steve!!!! affraid

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zVvR3kkwivE&feature=related
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qABrx6DAPNY

Why did you have to purchase your own rope, is there none included with the kit? How much did yours cost and what is the spec so I can look for a suitable source locally?

Cheers

Brian, that ride looks AMAZING, my daughter will be driving me mad to have a go!!
It'll be a pleasure to meet you there!!
Back down to earth, STW don't supply tow rope, infact Steve recommends not fitting one as it's probably more trouble than its worth, given that it'll most likely never be used!! However if you wish to fit one, (as I have done, cos I like the look of it on the drum!!) he recommends 50 metres of 4 or 5mm stainless steel rope which can be bought from local yatch chandlers etc. It's NOT CHEAP!! ........ expect to pay around £100.00............Unless you can find another sorce of cheap rope or don't go down the "stainless route" !!
Hope this helps & thanks for steam yatch clips,
Regards,
Tony

Thanks Tony for the supplier info. I suspect one fitted it will be used, one thing for sure if it's not there you'll wish it was.

I suspect mine might be used for loading the log trailer.

....and Brian I went on the Steam Yatch at Holycombe was great fun, not like today's rides at all. Long may it continue.

Tony

You also have to have a go!!! Just decide if you sit in the middle or more towards the ends, the difference is quite something. The age of your daughter will dictate the seating position I expect.

I will definately be putting a cable on Blackbeard, somewhere to put the anchor:P

That is expensive cable but then again, 50mtr goes a long way if you know what I mean.

Rob

The centre engine of the ride at Holycome is actually a converted traction engine or roller if I recall correctly and the ride was built around it, I think it is a lot lower than our ride although I have not visited it. I am sure it can still swing the boats vertical thought. The video I posted includes Nigel Underwood who looks after Ex-Mayor, it was his birthday. If you want a real swing you need to get on the engine crew rides and Ex-Mayor often generates for us on the Yachts.

Cheers

Brian

PS: Not long now, the rally season is almost upon us and the clocks go forward next week cheers

Still, not to worry, I'll just bung any "ol pics" up on the forum & you can "doctor them" so people can see what's going on!!
Thanks, bye the way!!

Hi All, Happy easter!!
I've managed to get a bit done on this latest kit, but first here's a pic of steam blast valve from last kit:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te141

I managed to spend quite a few hours draw filing levers & rods etc:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te240

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te716

I decided to take safety valve to bits & give it a good clean up too, I know I've mucked up the calibration, but I'm hoping to visit STW next Tuesday & I'm hoping they'll recallibrate it for me!!

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te334

The bits after polishing & blacking:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te430

I'm now unable to put more pics on the forum, so I'll try & sort out & try again later!!!

Hi again,
To continue.................The safety valve assembly back on the cylinder block:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te523

I love working on these little sub assemblies, it's very satisfying when you end up nice smooth operating piece of machine:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te620

Here we have the basic "reverser" lever & linkage set up, ready to start cutting notches in the quadrant plates:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te815

Now this is a time consuming bit, as it has to be right first time & accuracy is important so as not to have "sloppy slots":-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te914

I got it right, I think! However, the forward slot is "well forward" & I've had to cut the slot into the spacer between the quadrants as well!:-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te1015

The other end of the "reach rod", (which is now polished to bring it up to Showman's standard!!) is bloody close to the ceading, so I'll have to modify the way I keep the pin in place, else I'll be loosing paint.............& that ain't going to happen!!!! Rolling Eyes :-

Tone's Showmans second lot! - Page 6 Te1111

OK, that's my pics up to date, I'm back into the workshop now to go play with me whistle Very Happy

Regards,
Tony
