been working on a prototype part for the showman's today. we were unsure how to manufacture the brass stars that decorate the engine. one idea was to have them done as castings but we thought these would be too rough, however, someone thought they would be impossible to machine on the CNC. Rolling Eyes

well here you go, made out of eight separate segments. the thin pointed end is little more than 2mm thick...

doesn't look too bad for a rough first try. but now i have to make a few 100 more pale

Will these be on the Road Loco too.. If so how many? i.e. two for the motion covers or four motion covers and belly tank. I saw a number of showmans at the weekend and the majority had them on the belly tank too, but I was considering painting my initials in fancy font on there. They also had a flat star on the front of the cylinder cover.... Any plans to do those also? Very Happy Very Happy Otherwise looking good... Hurry up and get them out. Very Happy Very Happy

I suspect it would be possible to ask for "extras" if the RL only had two would it?

Hi All

In answer to Kevins question about the number of 'stars' on the RL. We are only planning to supply two stars for the motion covers. The President only has one flat one on the LH motion cover and none on the belly tank. Similarly we are planning two stars on the cylinder covers on the Showmans and none on the RL. However, I'm sure we can supply additional ones if wanted, but they will probably be chargeable.

Craigs done a great job on producing the prototype. Dean threatened to expose his bottom in public affraid if Craig was actually able to produce them to the drawing, so I'm quite sure I speak for everyone about being pleased they are currently a bit thicker than drawn.

If Craig does manage to thin them down a bit then suitable warnings will be given.

Regards

Steve

I didn't realise that Craig had managed the thin ones.

Now we're all in for a fright.

yeah, i did manage two as per drawing, just to prove a point Cool but you run the risk of them "curling up" a bit Neutral

I hope you're refering to the brass bits rather than anything to do with Deans threat.

Craig,

I think you will find that you didn't manage two to drawing, so i win lol.

The original drawing shows 1mm thick and 33 degree angle and the one's you've made aren't either.

Keep trying! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Maybe not 100% to your spec Dean but my God I would be happy to see them on my finished Showmans engine.

actually, Steve re-drew then to a 45 degree angle to suit to tool we had. the 1mm is just the non-angled section only at the thin end NOT the overall thickness Razz Razz Razz Very Happy Laughing Laughing Laughing
