Looking for a Hornplate Alignment Tool
Good Morning All,
I recently purchased a complete set of kits to build a 2" Burrell from a friend of a friend.
Before starting anything, I've been going through each set of instructions to ensure each kit is complete. Other than some miscellaneous fittings the only key things that look to be missing are the specialist tools supplied by STW.
These being the "Rivet Snap" Tool and Hornplate Alignment Tool.
I don't think I will need a the Rivet Snap Tool as at first glance the previous builder has already fitted the Chimney Casting to the Smokebox and this is the only place I can reference it is needed in the build. From the instructions it doesn't appear I will need it for the lamp bracket rivets.
However, I will need to locate a Hornplate Alignment tool and before contacting STW directly I thought I'd see if anyone who has built their 2" Burrell has one surplus to requirements?
Thanks in Advance
Regards
Josh

Re: Looking for a Hornplate Alignment Tool
Hi, Rivet snap tool not really needed - just a little luxury! Hornplate/bearing tool is the ONLY specialist tool required in the whole kit and there must be dozens lying around as it is only needed once! Call STW and I'm sure they will be happy to help. It is nothing special, just a chunk of steel plate which has been machined to exacting tolerances!

Hi Josh
As Greg said there are probably dozens lying about but i would think that owners would wish to hang in to them just incase they ever take there engines apart at any time.
It is probably best if you contact STW direct and order one.
I am surprised that a previous owner would have removed it from the kit as it’s quite a lump.

Hi
If I remember correctly the 2" alignment tool is a shaped flat bar. So easily forgotten about.
Down at 2" nothing is really big or chunky.

Re: Looking for a Hornplate Alignment Tool
Thanks for all your responses.
I've emailed Dean/Will this morning to look at purchasing a spare directly from STW.
In the meantime I've got the front set of wheels together and I'm now looking to fit my vulcanised tyres - Unfortunately the previous owners look to have cut about 2" too much off them unless they're meant to be that tighter fit!

Hi
Yes the tyres need to be a good tight fit. You will need the Isoflex primer and liquid rubber for the gluing on of the tyres. Warm the tyres, do the glue up, stretch the tire on, get covered in isoflex. Then tidy up the edges before setting. Best have the wheels on a bar to dry so the wheels hang upright and the tyre does not slip down the rim.
