Thanks very much Simon.... I looked at the inventory, and saw the part you mean... it definitely wasn’t delivered with my kit... I contacted Will and he will send me another one.... it’s strange that BU40730 says “including fastener” on the package.... but the fastener is given a different part number and is supplied separately (or in this case, not supplied)....

I decided to go with the Cromapol for sealing the tender - I read about it on another thread. It has the consistency of whipped cream and is very easy to apply. I am going to do 2 coats, and I am hopeful that it will do the job nicely. When I get the lid installed, I will be able to get my hand and brush through the hole and work some more into the joins.

Question about Tender Tank top
Once the tender tank top is secured - will it ever need to be removed ? In the instructions it mentions about using some instant gasket, but I had intended to fit the top and then get a brush through the hole in the top and apply the Cromapol sealer to the joins, which will be a lot more effective, but a lot more "permanent".... Thanks very much for any advice.

You are unlikely to need to take the top off unless it needs replacing for what ever reason (at which point I would wonder why the sides and back don't need replacing). The only other thing I can think off is if you need to give it a clean out, but the man hole should be more than sufficient for that.
Many thanks

What about these taps ? They are not very good are they .... I have spent ages lapping them in with some fine grinding paste - one of them seals ok, but the other is a bit dodgy..... I am loathe to attach them to the tender yet, as I am hoping the factory will come up with a better solution for this.... it will be annoying to fit them and then find that they leak....

Hi Milford59
We have bought some taps in that we know will work (other customers have bought them to replace the ones we have provided). As they are a bought in item I would recommend heading to the place we bought them from (as they would be much cheaper than buying them from us as we have to put our own mark up on it). The company in question is vintage car parts (follow this link: https://www.vintagecarparts.co.uk/products/341-curved-drain-tap-1).
Many thanks

Milford glad you liked the Cromapol
how did you get on with the rest of the tender did the tank lid go on all ok, we also just went round the inside with a brush once the lid was on to get more cromapol into the seems.
also i'm shocked we have to buy these taps ourselves! i was thinking STW would at least send out new taps to the builders as the ones they supply are simply rubbish!

Yes - the lid went on fine.... I think I will get the brush in there again to give the seams a final layer, as you suggest.
I agree that it’s a bit disappointing that we have to buy the new taps ourselves - the ones that were supplied are clearly not fit for purpose.

Re: Tender - tips and tricks
The tender is almost finished now… I have ordered the better quality curved drain taps and I have painted some stripes onto the tender. They are not perfect, from 2 feet away, but they look pretty good from 10 feet away !! …. I think that they do the job. I haven’t actually checked my tender for leakages yet, but I will do that once I get the taps fitted. I am hopeful that it will be ok, as I slapped a good amount of Cromapol into all of the nooks and crevices inside.

Wooden slats on tender floor.
I have seen quite a few tenders with wooden slats on the floor - they look good - is this a DIY modification ? Any tips on a suitable wood to use and how to finish them ? Thanks very much !

Hi
The wooden duckboards are created by the owners. I used some mahogany for mine as I had it around.
