Kit 10 bearing housings
Quick question...I received kit 10 today and had a look at everything this evening; the right hand bearing housing doesn’t fit, I’ve slackened off the bolts holding the spectacle plates but not enough movement to get it to fit, did anyone else have a problem?

I had to removed about 1.5 to 2mm on my 4" Burrell to get mine to fit.

Morning Greg
I am not at the same stage as you with this kit yet but I offered the housing to the horn plate last night and it fit like a glove. there is No room for paint on the spigot its that good a fit but will see what happens when the spectacle plate is fitted.
I will try it tonight and see, that's assuming that I get home at a reasonable hour.

Hi Norfork
Looks like your casting was not set correctly in the CNC and the hole pattern is offset.
Have a word with STW as I would guess a replacement is needed.

Re: Kit 10 bearing housings
well made it home at last and have just finished checking out "me bits" I will need to remove about half a mill from both edges of my bearing housing to allow the spectacle plates to be fitted.
Lynn if the casting fits the horn-plate and all the holes align without the spectacle plates fitted as mine do, then is the error not in the spectacle plate alignment? just a thought as grinding off is a sinch but grinding it back on now that's hard.

Re: Kit 10 bearing housings
Thank you both! I heard back from Ian at STW and he has suggested as long as the holes line up on the horn plate and bearing housing it’s ok to file down the edge of the bearing housing so that’s what I’ll be doing this weekend!

All done!! I think I’m going to hold off doing much more painting until I get the boiler.

If my memory serves me well, which I hasten to add these days its doesn't always, I had the same issue with my agri.
Filed a bit of the sides, works ok.

Re: Kit 10 bearing housings
I have offered up the bearing carrier to my hornplate assembly with the spectacle plates fitted and of course it won’t fit.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a mill , so I will have to grind off the excess metal, but that makes a load of unnecessary mess. It’s not as if this is a new problem - it was mentioned in the excellent series of videos by ChrisX several years ago....
..... this is a plea to the factory for the sake of future builders:
Reduce this bearing carrier by a few mm at the rear end so that it fits between the spec. plates
