Likamobile Front Stub Axle both left and right.
Good day all builders.
I am posting this message to be proactive on an issue that has arisen over the weekend of 5th Aug 2017.
The problem is the alignment of the brake caliper on both left and right front stub axles. The fault as presented on the control model is extremely small and only showed up when the wheels and brake calipers are mounted.
The root cause for this problem has been traced to welding of a sub assembly. The sub assemblies were machined then jigged up for final welding. The welding has introduced a small random distortion of the block that holds the brake caliper. Thus throwing out the alignment and in some cases binding up the brake disk completely.
The solution.
Steam Traction World are at this moment manufacturing completely new stub axles to a modified manufacturing process. This process will completely eliminate the distortion caused during welding.
Also during this re manufacture. The slight issue with the stub axle length and not being able to apply the split pin on the castellated nut is being addressed.
(07/08/2017) I will be contacting all current builders with the above issue to inform and answer questions.
Steam Traction World would like to apologies to all current builder and we are correcting the problem as a priority.

Dear Lynn,
Thank you and all concerned at STW for your extremely quick investigation into this problem and for also finding the absolute resolution! I must say that your solution is more than I had anticipated - I had thought that perhaps just a re-machining of the spacers was all that was required and a 'thinner' castellated nut and washer for the axle! But you are the experts! Thank you - I am glad that I have not wasted your time over the weekend!!
Kindest regards
Greg

Re: Likamobile Front Stub Axle both left and right.
Hi All
I have been beavering away and there is an easy fix for most customers.
On the stub axle where the brake caliper bolts on. There is two threaded stubs. If you file off these stubs to produce a flat surface, the caliper will sit flatter and in correct alignment with the brake disk.
It has been found that there is a 0.7mm difference between the threaded boss and the caliper bolt holes. This is a tolerance issue between the caliper drawing and the caliper as supplied.
We will have to send out adjusted washers to allow the castle nuts to be fitted correctly but this is a minor issue in the scheme of things.

Re: Likamobile Front Stub Axle both left and right.
Hi All
Once I have the final "scores on the doors" with the brake caliper alignment issue. Steam Traction World will be issuing a parts kit consisting of washers, spacers and modified castle nut for each stub axle. This is to allow spacing of the wheel and brake disk within the brake caliper. Also in the parts list will be spacer "washers" for putting in the cavity of the brake caliper to support where the two bosses should have been. This will restore full strength to the caliper mounting.
Some kit builder may still have alignment issues with the right hand brake caliper. To this end I am currently checking all stub axles at the factory for the fault and removing the defective units from stock.
Again I would like to apologies on behalf of Steam Traction World for this issue and confirm that we are working quickly to rectify the fault.

Good and prompt action, thank you. I now know when to stop assembly so that I can avoid doing unnecessary work.
