If I remember rightly those wheels are about 45kg, quite a lump to get on and off. Looking good though, keep the posts coming.

Have a look at my pics and you'll see my upside down roller skate. Works a treat especially when it comes to painting.
Happy building

Progress is looking really good! What did you use to clean up the wheels and spokes? I've seen a lot of people using patio cleaner and with flap wheels or polycarbide discs.

Re: Project 4" (1/3 Full Size) Burrell Agricultural Traction Engine Build.
Looking good, I didn't worry that much about getting everything nice and shiny. So long at the parts are degreassed and there is no loose scale I was advised to to worry to much. I used a flap wheel to take the sharp edges off and to clean up any rough edges. By removing the sharp edges and rounding them just slightly painting will be easier as paint tends to not like 90 degree corners and will shrink back (not sure that makes sense but hope it does).
Anyway keep up the good work, and keeps the posts coming

Sunday 12th Feb '17 - All 16 spokes cleaned up, got it down to about 15minutes per spoke now. Grinder & Flappy things in a drill + a bit of filing. I did try patio cleaner on the spokes of one of the front wheels but it done bugger all, I think I my have brought the wrong stuff. Flappy wheels are great

It's your engine. You can paint it what ever colour you like. Same applies to the pinstriping.
The roller skate certainly pays off when your brush painting.

Looks good, not the most traditional but why not, It will look very impressive with some contrasting lining.

Sunday 19th Mar '17 - Cleaned up a rear wheel rim today & put it in a coat of primer. The rims are a bit rough so I will use a bit of filler on them next. This is the first real work i've done on the engine in about 3 weeks as I got a piece of metal in my eye. It still not right but its on the mend now. If it happens to you go to A&E straight away, dont wait 2 days to let it go rusty in there like I did. WEAR YOUR GOGGLES ALL THE TIME !

Glad to hear you are on the mend. Not a nice thing to happen and if they have to get it out with a needle not very pleasant at all.
Good luck,
John
