tyre fitting? Empty tyre fitting?

Post  Mike King Sat 13 Dec 2014, 10:04 am

Hi, i wonder if anyone can advise me. I have dry fitted the rear tyres to my 2". As you know there is a gap between the two tyres. When i get to fit them permanently with isofix, do i leave the centre gap between the tyres on the surface of the rim rubberised with isofix or remove the isofix an paint that part in with the wheel colour? Any advice would be appreciated.

I would rubberise as it will fill up with crud anyway.

I just filled mine with the isofix as above. Looking around at some tyres at shows over the summer it seems to be a mixed bag of wither 3 tyres per wheel or 2 with a gap filled with a rubber compound of some sort. The tyres on the 2" seem to be pretty thick so less chance of chipping the rims on gravel etc.

Hi,
Thanks for your input. I think i will go down your route. Did you fill the gap right up to the existing tyre height, or slightly lower to give the impression of two tyres? Also STW say on the instructions to leave approx 3.5mm gp from the tyres to the outside of the rims. This leaves around 7mmto be filled. If i move the tyres to a approx 1.5 to the edge of the rim it looks better to my eyes, but leaves a larger centre gap to fill. What are your thoughts? This is my first build and i want it to be prety much perfect. Thanks again.

Hi Mike. I got mine rims pre-done with vulcanised tyres. I've measured them as the shaping of them would have been specified by STW they should be a good guide.

They are about 3.5mm from both outer and inner edges of the rims. There is a gap in the middle between the two tyres of about 3mm. This is about 1/4 filled with rubber. Sorry can't get a photo posted right now. On way out to do pre-Christmas visiting.

Hope this helps
