general production update JULY 2013

OK, as promised a quick look at whats happening this week.
 
firstly the boilers. the next batch of 10 burrell 4inch boilers are now at the stage of being tacked together, with four currently looking like boilers but awaiting final welding and the rest in various stages of construction...
 

 

 

 
Just to confirm that the 2inch Burrell kit 7 for the "running behind" people will be leaving tomorrow (Thursday 4th)
 
the machine shop is currently working on the next 4inch Burrell kit. this is the main gears and diff.
 
1st gear turned and drilled...
 

 
and ready for gear cutting...
 

 
and the "compensating center" castings are next on the machine...
 

 
the smoke boxes for the next 6inch foden kit have been rolled...
 

 
allowing the machine shop to start work on the chimney base castings...
 

 

 
and the cylinder block castings are in the factory...
 

 
the wood for the next traction wagon kit arrived today...
 

 
and i've started work on the only milled part in that kit... the tow bracket...
 

 
lots of different kits happening all at once but for now the burrell 4inch gear kit is our priority, i'll keep you updated if/when this changes or not

A quick look at last weeks work  ...

the last traction wagon kit is all done. mostly bought in wood and loads of manual hinges...





and the control model going together...



nearly done on the 4 inch Burrell diff and gears kit...









just one more op to do on the main compensating centers....



still doing every thing we can on the 6 inch Foden smoke-box kit, although we are waiting for some castings to arrive...

dart and dart bar...

and "tow-bar saddle"



next 4inch Foden kit is the water tanks, just waiting for the laser cut parts to arrive and then the next kit will be the smoke box and I've just sorted out the material order for this one and actually started on a few parts that we have material in stock for.

next 2 inch Burrell kit will be the diff and main gears, I'll get an up date on this for next week.

Are the two kits that should be arriving this month for the 4.5" foden on schedule?

OK, quick up date before we get to "next week".

the two foden 4inch kits are being worked on but are still behind schedule. the main problem is the bottle neck on the lathes as all the kits at the moment seem to be based on turned parts. the water tank laser cuts are in and they are being formed to shape but are waiting for the bushes to be turned and the material for the smoke box kit has started arriving.

most of this weeks work has been on the 6inch foden, the smoke boxes have taken a lot of work but are coming on well...



the tow brackets are done...



and dart Assembly...



hinge blocks...



and the chimney bases...



the milling section has been doing the final ops on the turned items and is now working on some items for future 2inch burrell kits.

Bits looking mighty fine for 6" Foden any ideas when we might be getting them,cheers:D 

just have the doors to do now (although they wont be quick) and waiting for the chimney caps to arrive. will be as soon as we can, obviously it's just as important to us to get the kits out the door. maybe another week ??

also now working on (and pushing hard) the parts for the 4inch foden water tank kit. again could be within a week.

quick update...

got the 4inch foden water tank kit done, they just need packing and then they can go out...







the first of the 6inch foden smoke-box doors is done and the kit has gone together fine. gonna take a few days to machine the rest and i think we are waiting for one laser cut to arrive, so this could be going out next week...



and mark has started work on the 6inch foden cylinder blocks, but don't get exited just yet as it always takes a while to sort out the machining ops and jigs etc.



im off on holiday next week but will try to get an update when i get back the following Monday (12th)

The smoke box and chimney for the 6" Foden really do look great and I expect they are larger than the picture shows. Thank you for the advanced pictures of the start of the cylinder block milling. I expect that these are going to be very heavy. If I get the chance I may come and collect mine when they are ready. I hope that you have a good holiday.
