I know the feeling Craig......as the hair is thinning the natural protection is going fast. I'll have to buy a hat....
Like Ian had a great day today, was really good to catch up with everyone and meet others of you there. Was good to see that STW had their own slot in the arena.......
Dean taking up position....

He went on to introduce all the engines and their builders. A really great turn out.

Now what is the collective term for a group of Road Loco roofs
I think it's firewood!! as they are no bloody use on the engines!!!
Seriously though after a few layout difficulties at the the start it has been probably the best rally I have attended, being resident makes such a difference to the level of relaxation that can be acheived not having to unload first thing and rush off at the end of the day. By far the highlight and the whole purpose of the engine for me was the Saturday night road run to the pub with Brian on Blackbeard with many in tow, as Dean has often said it is so nice to have made so many freinds through this build and the STW certainly looked like they got real satisfaction from seeing the work they do brought to life. I have yet to check the piccys but I upload the best, Brians daughter spent all weekend laying about all over the place with a camera so hopefully has some very "arty" shots to post too.
Thanks Guys, whens the next one????

Hey Kev, my wife got the wrong impression about what my daughter had been up to all weekend when she read this last night!! :P
Seriously though, great weekend, lots of red skin and kids with sore necks, back of legs etc.. Well done to Dean, Steve, Mark, Craig and the rest of the STW crew whose names I forget due to old age for arranging this and supporting us all with food and drink (for those that could). Great to get together will all the forum friends and put names to faces, funny how Blackbeard seems to already have some notoriety, it must be in the name. Thanks to Ian and Rob for posting photos so quickly that we could see them late on Saturday night in the B&B.
Particularly enjoyed seeing the other road locos and all the roofs!!
Highlights, of course getting someone else to come out for a play on the roads up tot he pub in the evening, even if someone was having a joke by locking the wheels on the trailer to make Blackbeard work harder on the way there. Completely ripped the rubber tyro off the STW traction wagon dragging four people on it. Great run back though in top gear and hopefully Andy will post the videos he took from Kev's seat behind us. Had a great time meeting Hippy Dave and crew and taking his 6" Foden chassis for a couple of trips around the arena and the rally site, already got miles on it now.
My daughter did indeed take hundreds of photos and no doubt many arty shots. It will take a couple days to sort them out and post some but we will be so keep watching this page for updates.
For those that missed the weekend, shame on you - here are a few make you feel jealous
Cheers
Brian
First one is for a CAPTION COMPETITION!! Unfortunately I am going to be the one that is the butt of any jokes for this.
Here a couple to give a flavour of my particular experience over the weekend.

Brian,I agree, another fine post, with excellent pictures showing what was obviously a good time being had by all!!
As for the "Caption competition", you could have left yourself wide open for all sorts of "abuse"........ So I'll start the ball (s) rolling
"A quick wipe down with an oily rag, should get that clean again"!!

Tony

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
Looks like you all had a really good weekend, some beautiful engines on show there. Like the livery on the 'Harris' road loco, not sure I've seen that one before?
I was all set for coming down...then I discovered I'd double booked myself on the Saturday and Sunday with the Braunston historic boat show....trustee for a pair that live there so couldn't really miss that....I'd also booked someone in for a boiler test on Sunday morning...so I really did cock it up!

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
My poor efforts at photography...
Early morning getting ready to tow Andy down to the STW stand.
The three RL steamers together
Mark (Chop) superb effort at lining needs to be seen, no point in attending a rally he is at if you want a trophy, only a matter of time before there is another winner and if not the judges must be blind!!
The STW stable in the arena.
Down at the pub, a nice place for a picture, need more practice at ideal composition.
The full size on their way back from the pub run.
Getting the line up for the big shot on Sunday, hopefully Dean has a better overall photo.
My attempt at "arty"
Still coming down from such a great time, looking forward to another two days at Wiston this weekend, anyone coming in come and say hello, me and Andy will be there. Then got another road run at Liss on the 13th July and then 4 in a row throughout August!!!

Re: Steam Traction World Gathering - 29th & 30th June 2013 - Banbury Rally
after seeing colemans engine i don't think i can allow hector to be painted black even if it is free and has some lovely gold pin striping. Love how everyone helps each other out-towing them around etc. Think this could possibly be the best way to get into steam especially if you don't know anybody with an engine

As I said I knew that was only a matter of time, the lining was so good it really made it pop but really proves what a great engine STW have a made a what a great job Mark has made of painting it. It the last thing on my list of things to acheive now!!!!
