No picture from last night but the wheels are in primer. Gone with a zinc loaded primer to see how it goes. I hope to get top coat on tonight and possibly a second coat on tomorrow.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Hi Lynn, The wagons look awesome. With two wagons and a water bowser hitched I was wondering what your backing skills are like? Mine will be strictly one way-forward. I would be grateful if you could advise the external dimensions of the wagons and water bowser including height. I am looking at purchasing a custom made box trailer and want to make sure the "ensemble" will fit. Cheers Shane

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Hi Shane
I will look in the tech pack tomorrow for you.
My trailer bed is 10x5.5 ft as this is the minimal size to fit the engine with the wagons beside her. The water bowser will sit in one of the wagons for transport. In our winter I will be adding anchor points to the axial bars and use the turnbuckles like on the main engine. Makes loading and unloading much quicker and solid.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
As requested. Wagon dimensions
Length excluding drawbar 1400
Width 700
Height 620
Wheel tack width 590
Wheelbase 745
For transport you can turn the drawbar inward so it is under the wagon.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
No worries Shane
For note. The road/showman loco will fit on a 10x5.5 ft trailer bed with sides. Clearance is less than 1" shared between the sides.
I use an Ifor Williams LM105 for transporting the engine, 2 wagons and a water bowser. The bowser lashes into one of the wagons for transport as the balance point for the engine does not allow it to fit on the bed either in front or behind the engine. I then balance the weight side to side by adding coal under the back of the wagons. If I use more coal than I went with I ballast the rear with the fresh water barrel filled instead of empty.
Unfortunately I did forget to take pictures with everything loaded up

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Hi All
Forgot to mention. The hangers for the brake bar need welding up as I have noticed they splay out if there is any force put on the brake shoes if the wagon is pushed forward with the brakes on.
If anyone wants them done and do not have a friendly welder or their own kit. Give me a shout and post them.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Gosh!
Created a new photobucket account to handle the extra traffic and to stop the bandwidth warnings. My second account can't even last a month before hitting 10G download limit.
Over the next few evenings I am going to reorganise the photo storage to get away from limits.
Normal service will resume soon.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Need to find a bit of stainless steel rod and see if I can turn down new pins for the wagons. The split pins look a bit "unfinished" for holding the sides up.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Hiya Lynn,
I've been doing a bit to my wagons over the last two days, & have got the first one pretty much assembled now!! I've got sore fingers having cut & "dressed" all the bolts on the grinder, that hold the planks on!!
When I tried to move one wagon by lifting it, all the leaf springs dropped out of their hangers, so the question is, what have you done with yours to stop this happening?
Regards,
Tony

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Hi Tony.
On the first wagon. I did not know about the issue, btw Steam Traction World is aware. On the second I moved the rear crossmember in 10mm for the rear springs. So far my front springs have not fallen.
So when I stack I makes sure it is the modified one that is lifted. Over the winter I plan to investigate the hangers and see what local modification could be done to stop the drop. I have considered a check strap, like used in rally. Fitted between the chassis and axil and limits the drop. Should be able to do it with 3mm high flex wire rope thimbled either end and discreetly attached. Also hide them inside of the bump stops.
Also while they are stacked for storage. I put wood blocks between the axil and chassis on the lower wagon to take the weight off it. So the springs don't sag under the long term load.

Re: Lynn Robinson. 4" traction Wagon. Twins. "Mara" and "Uisge"
Hi All
Well the snow has gone, for the moment. The sun is out, sort of. Its time for a bit of TLC on Uisge and Mara.
Mini overhaul so to speak. Uisge getting the treatment first.
She is feeling a bit wheeless.
Her springs have been cleaned and now being repainted.
Primer
Top coat. Satin black. Why? It is in stock on the shelf.
Oh by the way water bowser. It will be your turn for a bath once Mara and Uisge are finished.
