Tools for the job.

Hi all.

I thought it may be fun to list all the tools used for building Crystal.

Electric drill
Battery screwdriver drill.
Grinder.
Metric spanners, 6,8,9,10,11,13,15,17,18,19mm
Imperial spanners. 3/32,5/16,1/8,1/4
6" mole grips
Small adjustable spanner
Metric Alankeys set 1mm to 10mm
Duel head hammer, soft metal / nylon
Metric drill set 1mm to 10mm in .1 increments (bit over kill this one but the price was good)
Metric tap and die set. Not needed but useful. If you need to clear a hole contact Steam Traction World.
Set standard pliers
Side cutters
Half round second cut file
Square second cut file
Set needle files
Rat tail file
Flat bar punch
Hydraulic jack
Axial stands
Big box of biological puncture repair kit. A.k.a first aid kit.

Consumable items
Wet n dry paper 400,800,1200 grit
Large flap wheel 3" 120 grit
Pack of assorted sanding disks for grinder, if you have one.
Mini flap wheels 1/2" & 1" 60, 80 ,120 grit
General household glass paper (rough as no numbers on it)
iso-flex for tyres and water tank.
Cleaning rags
Large roll of blue paper, on my 3rd.

Extras
Selection of polishing mops 4" and compounds to suite.
Nickel plating kit. Does the bright work nicely.
Chemical blacking kit. For steering chains, safety valve spring and water tender springs.

I think that is all I have used. May edit I I think of anything else.

That's a great list Lynn. I am just about to start a Foden 4.5" build and I am sure I will need most of the same tools. Time to do some shopping before my first kit arrives!

Some sort of polishing kit is useful as well either to fit an electric drill or a bench grinder

Two items I find essential are a leather faced mallet and a swear-box.

1 tonne engine crane it's getting heavy
Axle stands
Trolley jack
Sash clamp
purdy paint brushes
Meguiars DA polisher
Frost polishing kit
Electric drill universal clamp to hold the drill when using the polishing kit.
Workmate bench
Engineers vice with soft jaws

Consumables
Por 15 water tank and tender sealant
Panel wipes and tack clothes for painting.
Craftmaster paints
BBQ heat resistant paint
Engine UHT paint
PTFE tape to seal joints
Locktite thread sealer used on every riv bolt in the belly tank
White spirit for brush cleaning
Scotchbrite disc for angle grinder this shifts the laser scale off the spokes etc really quickly.

Another from me is my Dremel, not sure I would have managed to get this far without it. Has made may tasks much quicker.

Good point Rob the mini drill has been extensively used why did I forget that one! Especially useful for making the rivet nuts look more riivet like on the wheel rims, polishing small items and cutting grease channels in the perch bracket.

I have used my lathe for my 2" on mnore than one occaision. It was there so I used it.
