Re: Etchings for your Engines
Hello,
Yes, i'm kind of back logged at the moment. i've been away a fair bit with the my Foster to steam fairs most weekends and i'm working crazy hours work just now.
i'm just finishing off the plates for two people that have paid as i've kept them waiting for long enough.
I have also decided to get a workshop shorted out. I've got a nice myford lathe and a tom senior mill but am currently battling against the weather to try and lay the slabs to fit the 10x12 shed on. it's taking too long to finish the plates by hand esp the 4" scale ones and having the mill setup for this will help out no end.
i'm not away this weekend so i hope to get the remainder of the paid plates finished and sent off.
I'm very sorry for the delay, things have just got out of hand time wise. once the workshop is up and working the 4" plates will be so much faster to make instead of finishing them on the bandsaw and then filing the side down for hours!
Im still to do your artwork for your plates so i'll get on to that too.

Looks like this has gone down a dead end!
Can anybody recommend a good etcher for a Name and Washout plate?
Thanks,
Brian

Re: Etchings for your Engines
Brian,
LSM do nice little casting for a boiler washout plate for a tenner - the casting is a bit thicker than I liked to milled some off the back, but I think there are a few pics knocking about on here of people who have them.
Can't help with the name plates though.
cheers
Rick

Etchings
Diane Carney of Loco nameplates has just done mine but is now editor of Model Engineer so she will do artwork only. She can then recommend an etching firm.

Diane Carney did mine too and it looks superb, realt fine unlike the cast ones. I was not aware she had stopped making them though, that is a shame as she does a super job.

Plates are back on.
Hello everyone,
yes I did disappear for a while and that’s due to work commitments. Things started going missing in the PM section of this site. not the sites fault but the mail boxes are very small when you’re trying to juggle peoples orders it all got very messy and it was taking up most of my spare time trying to organise.
The other reason I stopped was a few people tried to barter my prices down. not everyone and certainly not some of the people I didn’t manage to get plates done for but some did.
The plates are a competitive price compared with others. Diane Carney no longer makes plates or if she does they are very expensive. I won’t and can’t use "your" artwork. it really doesn’t help me! if you want anything "in the style of" then please send me some reference pictures.
A small drawing with the sizes also helps me. if you are thinking of ordering plates please only contact me with this information, it's hard to price things that i don’t know the sizes of or the style. these can be e mailed to me below along with your requests for orders.
If anyone wants plates then please contact me at steamengineplates@outlook.com
I am also no longer painting the plates. the standard order will only be the cost of the artwork, brass, etching and postage plus my time. It takes a long time to get plates made so I’m sure you'll understand that painting and cutting them out is not quick.
for an added cost I can paint and cut out the plates. this is a flat rate of £15 for 2" name plates £25 for 4" name plates £10 for 2" boiler wash plates £20 for 4" boiler wash plates. this price is added on top of the guide prices below for the basic plates.
boiler wash plates for 2" engines are £15 this includes postage.
boiler wash plates for 4" engines are £20 this includes postage.
2" name plates prices are depending on the size of the plate. prices range from £25 to £45 depending on the size of the plate.
4" name plates prices are depending on the size of the plate. Prices range from £50 + for a long showman’s plate x 2 it's going to be over £100 due to the size of the brass if the name plate is a long name.
please contact me above with your requests and I’ll get back to you on the price.
I will also do special orders for any sort of Loco or traction engine plates. Fowler, Burrell, Foster, Hunslet, etc. please make contact and I’ll advise on pricing.
Thanks.
