next showmans / roadloco kit.
the next kit (22 i think) is coming on well.
this will contain the cross-heads, con-rods and weighshaft bracket.
cross-heads are done...
and con-rods...
the weighshaft brackets...
have had to go back up on the machine to add jacking points...
mike's been working out the box size...
some of the castings for the generator kit...

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
Excellent progress here, very pleased to see the "jacking points" have been added as this was discussed on the stand and will make setting the weightshaft bracket much easier. Looking forward to getting my teeth into some of this now the rally season is coming to a close and I dont have another engine to get in the way, plus the organ project has almost been completed. Without all these other distractions I am hoping to find renewed enthusiasm for heavy gauge construction!!! plus I think we can see light at the end of the tunnel and its up to us builders to complete on time so we can show off next year!!!
Pictures of production
Just to say, thanks Craig, for all the pics of the metal taking shape!! I'd say that just about everyone who looks at this forum, finds them totally fascinating & really appreciate the time & effort to take the photos & upload them.

Tony.

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
Great to see all the moving parts coming together and control model looked superb at Dorset. I am getting my crankshaft kit this weekend hopefully so look forward to getting the cylinder next month (Craig??) and start building up the motion by the end of the year.
It has already ben said but thanks for the pictures Craig

Would you double check if there is one left and if it is not already claimed? Steve thought there were none left when I spoke to him at Dorset.
I would like it to go to Old Warden for me to collect from the stand if there is one available. If there is not then could you make sure Mike gives Steve a Crankshaft kit for me instead?? Steve said he would need reminding to take one or the other with him as the van is loaded.
Cheers
Brian

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
best to give Isabel a call on the cylinder. i know they were discussing it today. if its available and you want it to go to the show instead of the crank just let them know. me and Mike will make sure its ready and that they don't forget it

What tool do you use to cut the slots for the guide bars at the top and bottom of the motion bracket. As you know they have square sides and the bracket above prevents conventional tooling getting at them. For a on off I used a slotting head but for 60 I bet you found a quicker way.

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
we found a real easy way to do it... sub contractors
we did think about it and looked at various methods but in the end it was subbed out, once we had done some of the other bits. not actually sure how they did it, was just glad we didn't have to.
in truth most of this kit was done whilst i was on holiday, only the cross-heads passed through my hands
cant say im sorry i missed out on the con-rods, not my favorite

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
OK, thought this was the best place to post this...
there is a problem with this kit. the Piston glands BS41304 and Piston gland bush BS41305 are too large and need "reducing".
we are sorting the ones that we still have in the factory and you should get a letter to say we are recalling the parts that have gone out.
if you want to start sending them in just send these two parts no fasteners/any thing else

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
Hi Craig,
In what way do you mean they are too big?? They fit in the cylinder OK and go round the piston rod OK. Is it this that is causing the bottoming out by going too far into the steam space?? Just curious.
Cheers Kev

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
too long. they need reducing down. on the gland the small/thin end needs to come down from 16mm to 11mm and the larger flange end needs to be 4mm thick not 6mm.
on the bush its 12mm down to 6mm and 4mm down to 2mm.
reducing the overall Length of these parts will give more travel and stop the bottoming out
you could cut/turn them down but you also need to recreate the angle/taper
hope this makes sense ??

Re: next showmans / roadloco kit.
yeah, sorry guys. i'll get to it. have to get some pics on Monday.
currently working on the generator kit and the expansion link/weigh shaft etc. kits as seen on the control model at recent shows.
these were started long ago, some of the parts were finished and enough of the rest was done to get the control model together. most of this is now done. still need to drill holes for taper pins (waiting for pins to arrive), waiting for eccentric strap castings (control model had the samples) and the laser cuts for the generator mount need doing (arrived yesterday) control model has samples. also need to turn the oilers i believe.

OK, the kits have gone out
just to be clear... the generator mount and castings are not part of this kit. these will go out at a later date to those who need them
