Tax Disc Empty Tax Disc

Post  Waterways Thu 22 Jul 2010, 7:41 pm

Got my tax disc in the post today and certificate to get the numberplates made.
the V55/4 form has changed from the one on http://shirevillageinns.co.uk/register/rmte.htm and is as follows

V55/4
Only boxes completed are listed. All others were left blank.
2 Tax class: steam vehicle
3 Period of tax applied for: 12 months
6 Make: name of prototype maker, in my case Burrell.
7 Model: model of prototype, in my case Agricultural.
8 Type of body:steam tractor
9 Wheel plan: 2 axle rigid
10 Colour(s): as appropriate
11 Type approval number/catagory: n/a
28 Date from which tax disc is to run: date of registration
29 Type of fuel: steam
30 VIN/Chassis/Frame No: boiler number
31 Engine number: boiler number
32 Cylinder capacity: n/a
45 Partial postcode of purchaser: first part of your postcode
Back of first page:
46 Name & address of vehicle keeper: your details
47 Date of birth: your details
sign & date

To get a 10 plate you need to fill in a declaration form which they supplied with just name and adress and signature, else they go on when the boiler was made. They booked me in for a inspection on monday which he just checked the boiler plate and recieved all documents back today.

Can you explain exactly how you use steam as the fuel??? Question Question Question I had the same on my form and argued that it was actually coal that was the fuel but according to the DVLA apparantly not. Also they wouldnt let me use Burrell as the maker, worse still they wouldnt use the boiler maker either who made 70% of my engine ... they insisted it was still a Modelworks even thought MW had ceased more than a year previous. I couldnt even argue for a STW name... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Steam is what goes into the cylinders to power the engine so that is the fuel. you could heat the water with any combustible material. As with the make it has burrell written on the front so that is what they accepted i left the manufacturer space blank.
mine was registered at northampton and they seem to have had quite a few done there.
hugh to register a 2" it is just the same but you DO NOT say it is a model it is a steam vehicle.

Phoned DVLA Birmingham office 10 days ago. Received Form V55/4 and sent it off a week ago filled in as per Waterways post above. Included Certificate of Motor Insurance from Walker Midgeley, boiler pressure certificate and all receipts from STW, plus several A4 size photos of engine from all angles.
Received tax disc, etc back today. No inspection needed !! It was that quick and easy.
Have been allocated an 09 reg. from the date of the boiler cert.

I have just got my engine registered- using steam as the fuel and burrell as the maker. Went to Nottingham and they were more than happy to help. they did not want an inspection and were happy that it was brand new despite it being a batch 1 model so i have a 60 plate! from ringing swansea for the forms to getting the documentation to get plates made up took 16 days and £55. Bargin!

I would recomend it to anyone!
