gear grease Empty gear grease

Post  jjtjr Thu 03 Sep 2009, 12:15 am

How much gear grease should I put in the rear diff. should I put the fill plug on top and fill it all the way until it starts to come out. Also does the front vert. steering tube for the tiller need to be greased or is there sealed bearings. It seems stiff to move with the front tires off the ground.
Thanks Jim T.

gear grease Empty Re: gear grease

Hi Jim,

Prior to the John O Groats to Lands End run i took the diff apart and smothered the gears with a high melting point grease. I didn't fill the diff just covered each gear with a thick dollop (very technical i know! Very Happy )

The front steering tube is in bronze and needs covering in grease also.

All the best

Dean
