Hi Bertieburrell
In short No, but you will need to put PTFE tape on the studs holding it onto the boiler.

As I used steamseal to seal the cylinder block to the boiler I went the same way also for weighshaft bracket to seal boiler studs. Worked for me so far..

Thanks Elwood, was that just around the threads of the studs?

Yes, just around the studs, in real terms I put the tip of the stud in steamseal to get a good coverage and then put them in. But in order to "adjust" the weighshaft bracket I first installed it with normal bolts to set the bracket inline with cylinder block and as soon as that was done I replaced the bolts one by one with a stud and nut. And as always, before adding anything to the boiler, I cleaned the threads with a good set of taps, just for peace of mind. My worst nightmare would be a cross-threaded thread in the boiler because the bolt went in in an angle abd I did not notice in time. I can helicoil a damaged thread but I am not sure if I'd want to tackle the boiler in such a way.

Side remark: I see in your other thread on tender tank sealing, you've used the top plate as provided with the round hole. I did enlarge the hole quite a bit in order to gain more and better access to the inside. For covering the seams between tender sides and top plate even my 180 mm  by 180 mm hole almost was too small. Just to mention.....

Cheers
