Hi everyone

I’ve got a knock from the high pressure did on the crankshaft. There also no more adjustment to tighten. Then. Have I don’t something wrong?!

Is it on the crank bearing or big end?

The big end on to the crank is adjusted by the wedge and filing the flats on the big ends shells where they join. Make sure it is done evenly.

The little end in to the crosshead should not be rattling. You might have some space between the crosshead and slide bars and the Change in direction might be causing them to “slap”.

A picture or better a video of what is wrong would be good.

I fitted washers either side to eliminate the slap!

Crankshaft knock, high pressure side Empty knock

Hi, I had a similar problem, it turned out to be the valve guide just touching the valve chest. I shortened the valve rod by a small amount and also ground out the valve chest by a small amount so as it cleared the inside of the valve chest. I again checked it when it was hot. The other possibility is if the crosshead is touching a gland nut. At the time I had several people in our club look at it and they all said the knocking was coming from the big ends but as it turned out the sound was travelling and magnifying through the connecting rods. David.

Did you locate and solve the 'knock'?

I have only steamed my engine twice(1st to 50 psi ,2nd to 100psi) and I have a knock on the HP side. I have opened the valve chests to have a look and there is adequate clearance.  Also checked that nothing is hitting the gland nuts.

Yes
It was the wedge hitting the boiler. Removed and cut down about 8-10mm.
Still need to find the knock/squeak from the slides.
And find out why my water pump has stopped working.
