Just placed a deposit on a 4” SCC Empty Just placed a deposit on a 4” SCC

I first went to GDSF about 14 years ago as I love all things mechanical, particularly old steam. When I realised a few years later that I could buy a kit to build one, it was just a question of time before I took the plunge. Since that time I have built an Ultima GTR kit-car, rebuilt a BSA Bantam bike and a Triumph Bonneville bike, rebuilt a Westfield racing car, a Royale Formula Ford racing car and made numerous metalwork projects.... but NOW IS THE TIME........

So I have paid my deposit on a 4” SCC and I can’t wait to get started. I will be building it near Lymington, Hampshire - are there any other 4” builders around there ?

Regards to all.

I am expecting the first kit next month, so I will then be off and running. I have got all the space ready in my garage, and I just went to B&Q and bought the Cementone brick cleaner for the wheel spokes.  We need to get a bit more activity going in this section if the forum. Where are the other 9 people who have ordered the 4” SCC in this batch ! ?

Just placed a deposit on a 4” SCC Empty Kit No. 1 has arrived !

Post  milford59 on Mon 25 Nov 2019, 7:00 pm

Kit No. 1 arrived a couple of days ago - thanks very much Dean - I am off and running with this project and the first thing I have done is to clean up all of the wheel spokes using the tried and trusted method of a good soak in the Cementone brick cleaner, followed by a rinse and dry. You have to dry them quickly after the rinse, otherwise some rust starts to form.  I also chamfered the edges of the spokes. Not very exciting for a lot of you out there, but it may be useful info for future new builders.

Take your time and you won't be disappointed. The SCC is a nice piece of kit.
My SCC has been up and running for just over a year now and is still not finished.
The wheels are still in primer and needs a bit of tidying up.
I'll follow your postings and give any help I can as and when.
