Thanks Lynn!

Once the paint gun gets dialed in it’s a breeze to spray paint, the finish will last a lot longer as well compared to spray paints

Finished the tender kit with a coat of clear. Admittedly it isn’t the greatest paint job or finish but it still look pretty good in-person. Same story with the front and rear wheels

Not much progress has been made, although getting the other wheel lined and cleared is a big accomplish. Took what I had finished, minus the tender, into the sunlight to take some photos. Needless to say I’m looking forward to the day I can roll the engine out of the garage for the first time.

No updates, just realized I haven’t photographed the tender in the sun yet. Normal service should resume next month.  Very Happy

Here it is, next batch of kits arrived earlier today. It’s a bit overwhelming when everything arrives at the same time, Just have to take it one day (and kit) at a time.

4” Road Loco ‘Rachel’ - Page 2 222e6010

Got a start on kit 3 at least.

When I picked up the start of my engine it was half the kits in one go
And filled the back of a old 940 Volvo estate with the seats down with no room to spare

All those years of playing Tetris really paid off. lol! did you open each box and look at all the stuff in the kits and glance at the instructions...because that’s what I did.

One thing that still amazes me is the size of the engine. Seeing the STW engines at Dorset last year they seemed a bit small compared to the full size ones and the massive rally field, however holding the parts and seeing them on the bench I realized just how large this engine really is.

I would echo that. Each kit doesn't seem too bad but the weight is increasing all the time and quickly gets to the stage where manhandlig is difficult. When you get the wheels on at least you can roll it.
Keep up the good work.

Progress has been slow lately, went on holiday last week and haven’t been motivated to get anything done. Work has also been crazy busy so that doesn’t help, but some things have been accomplished.

4” Road Loco ‘Rachel’ - Page 2 50c4e010
Mounted the perch in place, this makes the first time I’ve combined 2 kits. Placed the pivot (believe that’s what it’s called) in place just to see what it looks like.

4” Road Loco ‘Rachel’ - Page 2 37345710
Still have a little bit of work left but I can now say I have the front section completed.

4” Road Loco ‘Rachel’ - Page 2 3a8abe10

4” Road Loco ‘Rachel’ - Page 2 D4284a10
Why Steam Traction World? Why torture us with so many rivets!! lol!
They weren’t that bad actually, went together fairly well except the top. It gave me a little trouble but eventually it all came together.

4” Road Loco ‘Rachel’ - Page 2 D712ed10
Nearly finished, still have to drill out the middle section and I’m gonna countersink them, which is probably unnecessary. Still have to bolt up the side panels but all in good time.

Hello Midwest
Just had a look back at my photos to see if the middle section is countersunk and it is.
As the belly tank is quite close to the boiler cladding in that area l would say countersink them.
Once you have your boiler the build moves real fast and it’s all very exciting.
But then you realise that now it’s real heavy and no longer fits on the bench for its photo call.
Looking real good keep up the good work.

For this months kit I finally got my boiler!! But it’s not time to celebrate yet since it won’t arrive until next year. Had an idea, might have to build a replica workbench and back wall just to have a familiar background lol!

Spent most of the day working on the belly tank, finished the top section as well as assemble the toolbox and water filler. The goal today is to get the sides bolted up and put all the brackets in place.

Hi

Are you planning on scarfing the edge of the top and bottom lips for the side plate to allow a tighter fit for bolting up?

Yup, that’s the plan. It’s hard to see but I still have to squeeze the tank together with some straps and get the last few holes drilled and riveted first. After that it’ll be time to flare the top and bottom.
