Paint for the 4" burrell agricultural
Hi there.
Which paint should be suitable for the chimney, smoke box and fire box ? I have found the plasti kote stove paint in a spray can. Does this need a prima and undercoat or is it direct to metal. ?
Does it have to be cured with heat ?
Can you apply 2 or 3 Coates without the risk of it flaking after a while ?
The craft master ( paint brush ), coach enamel, is this OK to use on the boiler cladding being so hot, and on the wheels, axle and tender ?
If you could answer these few questions I'd be very grateful. Thank you.

Hi. Plasticote BBQ paint must go straight onto the bare metal, best give it a couple of coats just as soon as the first ones have nearly dried, not necessary to cure really as by the time your ready to steam in 2 years or so it should have cured anyway. Craftmaster paint is fine for the cladding etc... Cheers Tim

Thank you Tim. Do you think it is worth varnishing over ?

Its entirely up to you , I decided not to use varnish but probably would help to keep the paint work and lining protected when you've been wiping the engine clean when in steam
