GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
good news for the 4inch foden people is that we have all but finished the next kit... cylinder accessories. really all thats left to do is pack the boxes. should go out monday or tuesday.
this is also the next kit for the 6inch foden...
and we are still working through the weld prep in the 6inch boiler plates...
we also have the 6inch crank shafts in, although they still need more work before they can be sent out...

Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
sorry guys. marks been off most of this week an I've been left to set most of the machines on my own. been working on the 6inch foden kit including the trunk guides and these have been a real challenge so i completely forgot to take any photos.
i can tell you that the material is in for the new batches of fodens and its just a case of getting it done.
not sure about the 4inch agric. at a guess i would say "wheels". as most of this is done off the machines, but that really is just a guess. i'll chase things up on monday.

Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
as i said, it was just a guess.
we now have a full time production manager so i no longer have to get involved in whats "coming up", i just simply get on with what im told to do.
so get up to speed these days i have to stop work and go and find things out. sometimes its best if i just keep working to get things done.
i'll get up to date on monday

I must admit I didn't know that "capital letters" meant shouting on the forum!!
But then, I ain't had anything to shout about on the forum... except, way back, when certain "DICK HEADS" weren't paying their bills!!
Oooh, I like that!!
Regards,
Tony

Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
I still think one of the earlier kits needs to contain a large helping of patience!!!! Having been a customer of STW for as many years as they have been producing its fair to say they do their upmost to get as many kits out the door on time as they can, after all provided everyone pays on time as they should its the only way they get paid. But it is inevitable that they run into issues which will slow this down and all the builders of all models want their next kit as soon as, all I can say is they will get stuff to you as soon as they can and it is definately worth the wait to get high quality well made components.
Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
yeah, we have to produce the stuff to survive.
dont forget, we are only a small company and if we get 2 people off ill that's 33% of our "production" staff we have to do with out.
anyway, that's not really the problem. fact is we now have a production manager so the rest of us don't need to worry about stuff like next kit's and ordering materials etc. i was simply too busy at the end of last week to find out about this weeks update, simple as that. and as we now have three different burrell 4inch kits running to be honest i loose track of which is which
tomorrow i'll get some photos of what it was i was busy doing

I was only asking to, and getting very exited when you said the materials were in stock, I appreciate that you are only a small company and completely understand that you try your hardest to get all the kits out on time,

Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
OK, got some photos today but first, a quick run down of the next few kits.
we are currently concentrating on getting the 6inch foden cylinder accessory kit finished, the trunk guides are proving to be more of a challenge than we first thought, but we are getting there.
the next 4inch BU agricultural kit will be kit 20. this includes brake wheel and arm, regulator, crank guards etc.
having joint priority with this will be the 4 and 6inch foden new batch kit 1.
we also need to get a 2inch burrell kit out. not sure what this will be yet.
the next SCC kit should be kit 8. this is basically the additional parts to go on the tender.
next showman's kits are the rear wheels.
hopefully soon we can return to the BU4inch kit 3's that we skipped.
hope this helps most people. things are always changing as we get delays on deliveries or even unexpected early deliveries on some stuff. we also try to spread the workload over all sections of the workshop, so don't be surprised if at any time the kits jump out of sequence a bit. most delays these days are caused by castings, but then our current castings are a huge improvement on the stuff that was used before STW took over, so we feel its worth waiting for.
now the photos. currently trying to finish off this lot. its all chunky stuff (technical term that ) and its taking a bit of time...
trunk guides...
trunk guide glands. LP and HP...
HP covers...
HP and LP slide valves...
also still have one machine dedicated to 6inch foden boiler prep. its nearly done...
more 4inch foden boilers have been started. these will be made along side the 6inch ones i belive...
and the new foden kit 1 material is now in...
hope that helps. i dont mind people asking whats happening, in fact i often need to be reminded/encouraged/dragged kicking and screaming (delete as appropriate) to do the updates. so its probably best that you do

Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
I'm not even a STW customer (yet), but I love seeing the production updates. Lots of shiny new metal, it's like looking at a new Meccano set and fantasising what you could do with it. Keep them coming, Craig!

Re: GENERAL PRODUCTION UPDATE: January 2014
yes, getting very close. the trunk guides are slowing it down, each one takes around 50min machining time over 4 operations. good news is that one hand is done and i have just started the last op of the other hand.
assuming nothing goes wrong we should be looking at Tuesday next week
