What to do with bolts?
I'm building the 6" Foden and have a number of bolts in the chassis. My chassis will be painted black so I was wondering if anyone had any experience of "blacking" nuts, bolts and washers? I have looked at black nickel as an option in a home kit.
I'm thinking they are more likely to keep the coating on if I ever need to tighten, plus the advantage of being plated all along and not just on the heads.
Any thoughts?

On the bright nickle plating kit i have the plating has not taken on the threads very well, but not used the blacking kit myself as yet.

I have used the frost chemical black kit and it works very well on threads.

Alternatively take or send them to Macros at Portsmouth who do a superb job with professional electroless black nickel and get a really good finish at a good price.

I too have used the frost kit with a good deal of success.

Like the idea of sending them off. What sort of price are you looking at? It may be worth doing as there are quite a few of the "rivet" bolts.
Hoping to get the chassis shotblasted this week to give it a good key for the paint.

I was thinking of using TopStop on my Foden chassis rails - no experience of it, if it does what it says on the tin it should suit me. This ebay link gives a few likely candidates some of which don't appear to use a catalyst.
